Default Gauge Cluster Swap out question

I have been looking to buy a FRC or a Z06 for a while now but I have come up with a question I have not been able to answer.

I have seen a few FRC's with Z06 clusters now when you replace the cluster does the original milage come from the computer and transfer on to the cluster or is the cluster milage now what is shown?

I guess could someone buy a low milage z06 cluster and put it in a high milage FRC and have everything appear to be 100% correct?

Just wanted to know so I know what to look out for. Thanks

Mileage is stored on the cluster I believe, you would need to have the mileage changed to be accurate.

The odometer mileage is stored in the IPC (Instrument Panel Controller), it is not stored in any other computer in the car.

If the IPC is not the original (you see a Z06 IPC in an FRC) then you either need to see documentation that the mileage is correct, or run, not walk, from that deal.

To change the mileage in an IPC requires special "tools" that even a dealer does not have. Places that honestly change the mileage require paperwork to do so ... see the folllowing link and select "Odometer Replacement Agreement"

http://www.paspeedo.com

If you think the mileage on the odometer doesn't make sense (1,000 miles on the odo and the nose and windshield are rock chipped like the car has been driven 100,000 miles) don't walk, RUN, from the "deal". It is too easy to present a car with false mileage on the odometer today .... and an odo (non Z06 in a Z06) that does not belong is a dead giveaway unless the seller has paperwork to PROVE the mileage is correct.

CARFAX could help ya too - to trace the mileage on it.
