I am planning on changing all of my fluids over to Royal Purple. Going to change the engine oil, Flush the trany, and change the rear end fluid. I am waiting to get the fluids in and may have some questions when it comes to changing all of them in a few weeks.
My question today is has anyone switched over all of these fluids and noticed or seen a difference in performance. I know it is not going to increase it that much if any but has anyone done a before and after Dyno on a C5 after changing them.
Also how many mile can you go on the engine oil with Royal Purple? A sales rep form royal purple told me I would be good for 10,000 miles.
I used RP max ATF (Dexron III compatible) in the MN6 tranny and noticed an immediate difference for the better, only to find many others are using Manual Syncromax with even better results(I beleive RP has since updated their website to recommend syncromax for C5) .
I used RP in the 3.42 rear end. Never a problem before and none now.
I have used RP oil in 2001 LS1 trans am, but didn't notice it being substantially better than Mobil one. Due to the interval of oil change and the fact that RP is hard to get ahold of for less than $9 a quart locally, I stuck with $6 a quart mobil 1 engine oil on the vette.
I used to order RP by the case online and could get it for around $7 a quart shipped.
This is just my personal opinion, and keep in mind I'm OCD:
I wouldn't go more than 6 months or 5000 miles on any oil. No reason to risk it. Engine oil is the lifeblood of your engine and it will give you many trouble free miles as long as you religiously change the oil. This goes for almost any modern engine. Regardless of how long it will last in a lab test, oil gets dirty when driven in the real world -- especially in TX.

I just finished doing mine. I used the Sychomax in the transmission and 75w90 in the rear end. I haven't driven it yet. I was going to use Amsoil, but I had to go 5 different places to piece what I needed together. One place would only sell to me by the case...as if I need 12 quarts of 75w90 or transmission fluid. After I drive it, I'll post back up.
Edit: make sure the pump you have fits in the neck of the Royal Purple bottle, mine didn't. I had 1/2 quart of Mobil1 synthetic ATF i sacraficed for the bottle. I had to poor the Royal Purple in the the Mobil1 bottle...A royal pain in the a$$

Sorry to hijack the thread, but as an FYI, you can order AMSOIL online via the link to the left or the info in my signature (and the sale benefits my dealership and the forum if you use reference #1206638), and you can buy in any quantity you want and it will come to your house vice having to go find it.
Those who sign up for the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program get AMSOIL products at wholesale, same price I pay as a dealer and about 25% under retail. AMSOIL ships via UPS and everything I order usually arrives about two business days after I order. Though shipping rates do vary (they go down per unit weight the larger the order), they are pretty reasonable and come out to about 88 cents per quart for all but the smallest of orders.

If you have any questions, please drop me a PM.
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind when I bring my Mustang out of retirement later this summer. As of right now the vette is done, except for the engine oil. I can see buying that by the case, but not gear oil when I only needed two quarts.
Theres not enough room to tip the bottle and pout it in the transmission, maybe the diff...but it's easier with a pump.
I drove it some today after the fluid change. At first I couldn't notice much difference. After a few miles(maybe 10) the transmission got smoother. As for the rear diff, I can't tell really. I did it for piece of mind. I bought the car used in Nov with 55k on it. I drained out today, what I assume to be the original fluids.
I would do some research befor you put RP in your engine!
Just my 2 cents
I have used it in my F.I. 460 for quite some time, no issues. I don't believe everything I read either. I know there are some people claiming bearings being spun..I don't know. It has served me well.

Yeah, I just bought my C5 in January, it only has 22,000 miles on it. I know it is too soon to change the rear end and trany fluid but I figure that it’s not going to hurt it and for the long run will be better for the components for many mile to come.

There have been previous threads on RP in the engine. A well respected performance shop gave a very blunt opinion based on their experiences. I would do a search and check it out and then form your own judgements armed with more information.
Royal purple is good stuff but I did not like it in the tranny, I used penzoil syncromesh in the tranny and its smoother than RP syncromax. I love the motor oil tho

I am not qualified to tell you what you should or should not use. But as stated in this post, please do a search and then make your decision.
I will say, GM spends millions on R&D, so If they recomend Mobil 1, then I am going to use it.
I'll keep this short and simple...
I have a friend deeply involved in lubricants technology. His word is Royal Purple is great stuff with bad quality control. One batch can differ greatly from others as far as additive content. Amsoil is great stuff all the time. I use Amsoil but don't think a normal human could tell the difference between any of them. Hope that helps
I have always used royal purple, great stuff, there is always going to be a nay-sayer. Amsoil is also one of the best. GM wouldn't recommend RP or Amsoil because half the vette owners would know what it is and not every lube center carries it as they probably do with Mobil 1.
RP is fine. Amsoil is fine. Mobil 1 is fine. I personally use RP and I like it, but if someone gave me Amsoil tomorrow for free, would not hesitate using that. These are all big brands, they are all researched, they all have teams of chemists behind them. More importantly than the brand is actually changing the oil frequently, and not let it sit in there for 100,000 miles.
IMHO...When you are buying boutique or exotic oils you are paying for joining the club...
Much like when you pay for designer jeans you are paying for the label not the material.
Buying any lubricant is dead simple...
4 questions
1. Is is good for my car ( does it meet/exceed the manufacturers spec?
2. Is it good for where I drive my car ( does it meet the viscosity requirements)?
3. Is it a brand that I know and trust?
4. Is it a price I am prepared to pay.
Buy any oil that gives you a yes to all 4 questions.
Personally Shell (also owns Pennzoil and Quaker) and Exxon Mobil are the top 2 in the world in lubricants.
If they make it... i buy it... no need to look any further.
I feel that mobile 1 is a great oil, have always ran it in my other vehicle. I think that GM recommends this oil probably do to a contract they have with them, Its a well know name, and reasonably priced synthetic.
I am not a NASCAR fan but was told that ever one of their cars run on RP, saying that it is superior to any other synthetic on performance and wear.

Whoever told you that is full of
I am absolutely certain that Kevin Harvick Shell/Pennzoil DOES NOT use anything but Shell/Pennzoil products......
