I've searched the forum and found a thread very similar to this, but it takes to you another thread that only removes and repairs the control module. It does not get to the heart of the question. So I'm posting this question again. What is rattling in the door when it is closed? I've had the vette about five months. It rattled slightly when I first got it, but has gotten much worse over the past few months. Window operates fine, no issues there. Just this frickin rattle when closing the door. Before I take the door panel off I would like to know if there is a typical part that breaks in the door that I should buy first? I'm assuming it should be an easy fix, but want to be prepared for the worst before cracking open the door panel.
Thanks in advance for your help
ONLY RATTLES WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR AND THE WINDOW IS DOWN.
Update -NO MORE RATTLE
Pulled the panel off and after mistakenly futzing around with window height adjustment for about hour or so, came across the rattle culprit. At the base of the window mechanism (toward the front of car/hinge) there is a stud like attachment. This stud is for adjusting the window inward and outward. The window mechanism "foot" slips over this stud. The stud has a rubber sleeving around it. The sleeving looks like it has a tendency to slip off the stud which exposes the metal below it, therefore letting the "foot" make contact with the metal stud = rattle. I attempted to slide the rubber sleeving back onto the stud with the foot in place, but the foot interfered. So I took of the stud nut from the bottom of the door (remove rubber access cover on bottom of door), then removed the 2 nuts at the top of the window tract so I could raise the window track jst enough (1/4" - 1/2") to clear the stud. Put the rubber sleeve back on the stud, put the stud back in the bottom of the door and lowered/pressed the window track foot back down onto the stud. There is now a tight fit at the bottom attaching point. Here's a picture of the door panel remove and one of the stud and foot attached inside the door. ,
Does your mirror swivel properly? Apparently mine broke when the previous owner had it. It is now screwed to the mount, but they didn't take the swivel spring off, so it's just in there rattling around. I never notice it unless I close my passenger door.
Check this- I had a rattle in the driver's door too- it was the bottom of the window track. There's a rubber bushing/condom at the lower part of the window track that broke off and and allowed it to rattle.
Take your door panel off again and look at the front "mount" (and rear for that matter) of the track that attaches to the bottom of the door. Try to jiggle it with your hand. If it jiggles and/or that rubber bushing/condom thing is missing, then that's your problem.
I fixed mine using JB weld and its held for 5 years of daily driving opening/closing. I'm not saying this is your problem, but there's a good chance it is, since that's what happened with my car. Good luck, let us know if this is it.
Oh yeah, the window track is expensive to replace. The JB weld works fine assuming this is the issue
You don't have to remove the door panel to check the lower window regulator mounting bolts.
There is a rubber access plug below each one. Remove the plug, and you can check to see if the track is loose.
You can easily replace the window regulator, but the part costs $250-$350 from GM, depending on how much of a discount you can get.

This is a good point- check the bolts from the underside first, its easier. However- when my car had the problem- these bolts were tight. The only way to see that rubber condom was missing, was to view it from the top (i.e., removal of the door panel)

It sounds like the lower foot of the track broke and you JB Welded it back together since the bolt was tight? I felt under the door yesterday. I felt the rubber access covers and the bolts. The bolts seemed tight. I'll do a more thorough inspection and remove the inspection plugs and feel around inside to see if the rubber/plastic grommets/condoms are busted or still intact before pulling the door apart. Do you think the grommets can be replaced through the inspection / access covers with out pulling the panel? I'll read through my service manual tonight for the visual of the window track mounting scheme.
Thanks for you help. I'll let you know what I find out. I hope it is an easy fix.

BUGZ
Sorta- it wasn't broken to the point the track was swinging back and forth. Just broken enough that it would rattle (I don't remember if it was only with the window down- that was 5 years ago ).
To inspect the rubber grommets/plastic bushings, you have to remove the door panel. You cannot see them from the underside.
Interesting, mine vibrates when the stereo has barely any bass at all. If the window is down it's ok though, I need to take my panel off sometime. Now I have a wind noise too from either my top or hatch. Throw in the Bose emblems rattling from time to time, PITA.
Interesting, I've got an 04 so I guess it should have been fixed. One of these days I'll take the panel off and do all this at once. Probably buy some padding to go on everything. Tried to get it fixed under warranty but they just sat on my car for over a day without touching it. I still have GMPP.
