Yes, yes, I to have the infamous warped rotor problem.
I had my tire slashed a few months ago... new tires go. About 3,000 miles, like clockwork according to the TSB, my braking starts to stutter a little bit.
Would it be safe to just replace the one rotor on the wheel that had the tire change?
The root cause of many warped rotors is the improper torquing of the lug nuts.
I had rotor warp once on my 85. Since then I've been very careful to ensure that the lug nuts get torqued when wheels are reinstalled. I use a three-step 50, 75, 100 ft-lbs in a star pattern. Most techs cooperate; some don't. I use my torque wrench (and a 19mm deep well socket) to double check all of them. Not hard to do since the tires don't come off that often.

Yup, almost positive that's what happened here. When I had a Goodyear retailer replace my slashed tire, they were extremely cautious and careful with my car.
But then, after they were done, they had to take that wheel off to get some number off they tire (or something like that). I bet when they did that part in a hurry they didn't torque the lugs properly.
