Fikse will take care of the rims, America's tire will supply the tires, JT needs to take care of expanding the wheel wells on his 01'coupe.
A lot of information out there regarding tubbing of FRC's, anybody tubb a coupe to fit 335/345's? The fender tubbing process looks reasonable as I'm
experienced with glass and body work. My concerns are with how to get the plastic speaker grills/side covers to fit properly. Also, any ideas on relocation
of the top mounts.
Anybody have input on this topic.
Much appreciated.
JT
I've never done this but I was thinking you could put the top mounts towards the back on the compartment lids and make some kind of brackets or something to keep it from sliding forward. And don't the FRCs have basically the same kind of speaker grills etc. You might want to ask those guys how they did it.
We recently tubbed my 99 coupe. Hmm, I think you should give us a call. If I were to try and describe how its done but I would be here an hour trying to do so...
I could also send pics of the finished install. Please give us a call if we can help you further.
Oceanaire, thanks for the kudo's.
99 Corvette, 98 Sixspeed, My initial thoughts are to mount the front top locators on top of the wheelwells after moving inwards. Will need to see the
final location of the wheelwells. Also, based upon photo's I've seen the FRC use different speaker covers.
Nate, Any major differences vs the FRC other then the inner speaker panels? Can you post pics? Also, when can I give you a call to discuss?
Thanks, Jim
JT,
I had my car tubbed and I moved in the wheel well about 2”. I fabricated a couple of brackets and they mounted to the sides of the wheel well. The advantage is that now there is more storage under the top when it is in the back of the car. The disadvantage is that there is some extra expense in the brackets and covering them. A friend of mine tubbed his car as well and only moved the inner well in 1-1/2” and his top still stores in the stock location. We are both running 345’s and neither of us has a rubbing problem.
Hey JT -
I know exactly what you need, Lingenfelter's sells a complete tubbing kit that includes fiberglass inner fenders, molded plastic outer fenderwells, trick brackets to mount your removable top, and complete instructions, they get about $1500.00 for the whole kit, and it's pretty painless to install, we put one on my friends '99 coupe, and everything went right back in place, even the carpet! you have to do a little manipulating to get the wrinkles out, but it looks real good when it's finished. he's running 345 rear tires without any problems. give them a call, you will be happy with the parts.
Tom C5, How did you handle the inner speaker panels? Heat and reform or trim? I like the idea of the 1.5" tubb, ideally the stock position for the top is what I would prefer. How much grief did you go thru with the fender skirts?
Wicked, I'm pulling the wheel, inner fender out out today to do some preliminary measurements based upon 12" rims with 345-35 Pilots. Will speak
to Nate later (hopefully review his photo's) about the tubbing of his coupe. If
all comes together I will target the the week between xmas and new years for addressing the task. Will let you what I decide. Are you going to attend the ButtonWillow event?
Nasty, Steve, Jim, going to try to make Buttonwillow. Steve, should be interesting with new tires (hopefully wider!) and timing of laps. :smash:

No Mercy,
The exhaust is Bassani full lenght X pipe with SuperTrapp mufflers capped with
SupperTrapp billit end caps. Check the Summit Racing catalog for the mufflers.
I used the 5" diameter versions. Sound deep with no resonance.
As I suspected the bulk of the tubbing process is similar to the FRC's with the
exception of the speaker mounts and grill covers. Will speak to Nate to understand his approach to this issue. Does look like I can tubb 1.5" without
moving the top mounts :) .
More info to follow....

Hey JT! I tubbed my car. Used the site http://www.tradezone.com/vette . I found it easier not to cut off the mounting tabs for the inner fender when doing the actual tub. Instead we measured 1-1/2" out from the fender well (and drew a parallel line). Next we measured 1-1/2" out from each of these mounting brackets so that our actual cut looks like a straight line except where the 2 brackets protrude out. As far as the actual cut (on the arc) goes do it straight on the top of the wheel well just as close as you can get to the support tower that has that black plastic cover on it. Once you have cut this section out simply slide it over untile the brackets (for the inner fender) hit. Put some weather tight material under this part and rivet it in place. Next put duct tape under the parts and fill the newly created void with "Tiger Hair". This stuff is easy to use and very strong. Any holes then can be filled with "Vette Panel" adhesive. Sand, prime and your done inside the trunk.
I did my inner fender a little different. Do the exact same cut (as shown)... then mount the two halves back onto the car. Once mounted, simply cut another inner fender (junk yard) into 2-1/2" strips and use a plastic epoxy to mount to both surfaces.
Nothing changes when done like this. In fact, your stock carpet will even fit. It's very easy and will only take you about 6 hrs or so.
