Default How to remove LS1 Balancer

I'm tearing down my LS1 and all I lack to remove the crank is the balancer. I have the center bolt out but my balancer puller only works on balancers with bolts holes to grab with. My balancer is stock but it has been keyed as well (twin turbo application). Can I not gently tap it loose with a 2x4 and sledge around the perimeter?

NO you can not. Go to http://www.ls1howto.com/ look in the C5 Head and Cam swap section and you’ll see the puller you need. Just as important as the puller is the little piece that protects the end of the crank and the balancer bolt threads.

You need a 3 jaw puller to get it off.

If you tap it off, you risk damaging the rubber between the two pieces and it could fall apart. Besides, it won't come off with gentle tapping anyway. Get a 3 jaw puller. They aren't too expensice and should be able to find one at the local auto parts store
