What is clutch chatter? What makes a clutch chatter? When does the chatter?(clutch in, clutch out, both?) I am trying to narrow down an unfamiliar noise after a Z-Grip install.
the term clutch chatter refers to the clutch disc or discs moving around and making nosie when the pressure plate is enguaged (anytime the clutch is pressed). It could also refer to the shaking or chatter you get when enguaging a metalic type disc when taking off from a stop. the latter is just the metalic disc 'skipping' on the FW & PP as it is enguaged, it makes and annoying sound/vibration that can be felt & heard.
My Textralia OZ 700-Z makes a stumbling move when letting out on the clutch pedal in 1st gear. Doesn't matter whether you are at 1000 or 3000rpm. I let out on the pedal and about 50% of the travel into letting out the the pedal the clutch suddenly grabs, and the car stumbles - it's almost like a chatter.
I just had this Textralia clutch installed and only have 50 miles on it so I am going to give it a week or so. If it doesn't settle out - my experience has always been if it doesn't work from day one then it will never work - then I will pull the clutch and return to an OEM Z06 clutch assembly.
I installed an LS7 throwout bearing, Calloway adjustable slave, new master, remote bleeder (by the way, the LAPD only fit stock cars so I wasted $50), Textralia clutch assembly.
At $900 for just the clutch assemlby you would have thought Textralia product would perform better right out of the box. So far I am not impressed.

You couldn't be any more wrong. Give it 500-1000 miles and it will go away (especially after a periodic beating, after break-in of course )
