Default Water Pump

It's been a while since I've been on this forum, but I do need some help at this time. I have 55k miles on my 01 coup, and it seems that my water pump is leaking at the shaft. I can get one at Pep Boys for about $133.00. Does anyone have instructions posted on the replacement procedure, and is this a tough job?

Pretty straightforward procedure ....

* Remove air bridge from throttle body and position out of the way.

* Remove serpentine belt

* Drain coolant from radiator (or expect coolant coming out as you disconnect hoses)

* Remove large Inlet and Outlet hoses from water pump

* Remove Heater Inlet and Surge Tank outlet hoses from water pump

* Unbolt water pump

* Remove

* Remove water pump gaskets

-------------------- Installation

* Install water pump with gaskets to engine

* Hand start water pump bolts

* Tighten bolts in 2 passes (11 lb/ft first pass then 22 lb/ft second pass)

* Reattach 4 hoses

* Install serpentine belt

* Install airbridge to throttle body

* Fill coolant system with fresh coolant

* Open a 6 pack and

gaskets have seals built in
you might want to use some gasket tack
to help hold them while you get the bolts started
it helped me

Note the new water pumps have a built in stat. When I did the one on the 02 I could not use my aftermarket stat. At least that was my experience. Also Gene Culley had the best price I could find at the time

Yo' Pewter, the new pumps are like the LS2. You can get a stat from SLP or Lingenfelter (off the top of my head).

One more question.. After I get everything back together, how do I fill the radiator? It seems taht the recovery tank is the only inlet, and I dont see how filling that will fill a dry radiator....

That is correct, through the reservoir. Keep an eye on the level. You will need to let the car run and when the thermostat opens you will need to add some more coolant and you will probably have to burp the system a couple of times.

I fill them through the top radiator hose since it is already off. When coolant starts to come out of the waterpump fitting, then put the hose on and fill the rest through the tank.
