I will look into that thanks man!...Got an over the phone quote from a guy at 3k ish to fix the body damage. The car is going to STS right now to get accessed to make sure the frame is ok and get the stock rims put back on. So let the restoring process begin.
ok guys I got the car back from STS they put my old rims back on the car and they realigned the front and rear of the car and checked it out and it drives perfectly straight, they dont think the frame is bent but they are not 100% sure but this is great news because me and my dad dont think its bent either. It was only 282 dollars to get this done so thats not bad at all. Now its just to the body work.
Most of those scratches look like they're in the clear coat only. I would say that they may buff out. If you are doing the work yourself, you can get the fiberglass materials, paint color, reducer, clear, hardener, for about 250 bucks. If you spray it well and the color you get matches closely enough, you might be able to blend the paint before the line of the body panel and clear the entire panel. This isn't hard work. It's just work. For 1500, you could buy all of the tools including paint gun, D/A sander, compressor and everything else to do this job yourself. That color doesn't show trash very well. You can spray 2 good coats of color and then sand with 600 grit and spray one more, then 2 coats of clear and color sand and buff when you're done and it will look good. I have sprayed that color before and it's not bad. There are no " variants" The sunset orange metallic has 4 variants, meaning when you spray it, you have a 1 in 4 chance it will match because there are 4 changes to the same paint code that GM made.
well thats definately informative. I will think about that. The car is getting looked at this monday by a body shop so we will see what they say. In the mean time I am installing my new wheel well and I repainted all my brake calipers and have got alot of the dirt off. I also need to buy that air damp thing too. I say by mid april she will be fully together.
I just had a hole that was punched into my rocker panel repaired last fall. Cost was $200. The shop owner told me he would have estimated another $100 more if he had known what he was getting into. Based on what that repair cost me and what he thought he should have charged me I think you are looking in the range of $600 to $700 for the repair plus the cost of the rear inner fender liner which should't be too expensive and it only takes a half hour to take it out and re-install.
there are a couple of post in the parts for sale section with people parting out C5s. Could be a lost cost source for a new fender liner. I was also able to get a quarter panel off of a car in the same color/year/miles as my car that matched perfect for less than it would have cost to repaint mine.
I hate that you have to be afraid of filing a claim due to fear of increased rates But are you really paying 5000 a year!!!! I would change insurance companies
cant get any better rates are my age they screw us kids. Anyway I got the inner fender well for 50 dollars and I found a new rocker panel for 150 so I may buy that too and than its just a new air damp for the front plus the paint/body work.
