Default gear ratios???

Does anyone know what the stock rear gear ratio was on 2000-2004 C5s and also on 2001-2004 Z06s? Was there a standard, or was there options to get different ratios? Thanks

Standard on the Automatics was a 2:73
The performance Axel Ratio for Automatics was 3:15
All of the manual cars including the Z06 use a 3:42 the only difference between the Z06 rear and the other manual 3:42 rear was the Z06 gears werew shot peened and thus harder.

I don't know if that data was available.

but.... there were these A4 3.15 possibilities:

* car ordered with the G92 3.15 option, or

* car ordered with Z51 suspension gets the 3.15 as part of the package, or

* those destined to Europe have been reported to all be the 3.15 ratio.

I randomly choose 2001 Model Year ....

Automatics with 3.15 axle ..... 12,882 cars made (G92)

Automatics with 2.73 axle ..... 6,725 cars made (GU2)

So the "performance" axle outsold the "standard" axle almost two to one .... go here for the numbers ....

The remainder of the cars produced (16,019) have the 3.42 axle as they have the manual (either MM6 or M12) transmissions.

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/.../2001prod.html

So NO, the 2.73 was the LEAST popular axle ratio .....

I agree that the dead horse was maybe a little harsh, but as a new member, if you'll look at the top of the C5 general you'll see a sticky titled something like weights, measurements, etc. Before you ask general questions, if you read that or search "gears" for example, all that info will magically appear. Nice job on filling out your profile, too. Lot of people don't until prodded. Welcome
