Default idle problem?

So i have a head and cam kit on my car and when i first start my car up it searches for idle until it gets to proper running temp. Its not really a big deal i was just wondering how to get this problem fixed? it usually dives down to about 500 rpms then back up to 900 over and over slowly uintil it hits operationg temp.

You would have to fix that in the computer. If you have HP tuners etc you can do this yourself in about 2 minutes.

Did you buy the car with the heads/cam on it already, or did you have it done?

Any competent tuner should be able to address the idle hunting for you if you don't have the means or the desire to do so.

Mine was doing the same thing...I have a cam with a nice exhaust, 6-speed 02...had it re-tuned by someone that know about C-5s and it is running better than it ever has!

yeah i bought it with most of the mods it has already on it. and yes it does have hp tuners. dont you have to pay like 400 dollars to unlock the hp tuners or something? i was planning on getting it retuned anyway maybe get a few extra ***** out of it. its putting down 424 rwhp and 410 rwtq with a sketchy tune.

Well, I don't know about *****, but you'll probably get some more ponies out of it. HP Tuners doesn't lock the computer, as a matter of fact, HPTuners can tune any car made in the year it was licensed for. If you have HPTuners for a 2001 C5, you can tune any 2001 C5. A couple of things to check are, make sure all your intake connections are tight from before the MAF to the intake manifold, i.e. the clamps. Make sure there are no rips or tears in ducting. Also check for a vacuum leak. These things will contribute to a hunting idle. Once you know it's all good then you can get a tune that will be right for the car.
