Default Vararam & Tune

I posted this in the Scan & Tune section but Tech gets more traffic so I thought I'd put it here too.

A quick question with a preface:

I'm getting a tune done on the 26th of next month (98 A4 stock engine, Corsa Pace Car & X pipe) and am really looking foward to it.

My question is this; if I install a Vararam afterwards will I need to get the car tuned again?

Thanks in advance for the imput.

No, an air filter/CAI is not going to need a tune.

My impression is that you want to get all your mods done first and then invest in a custom tune!!!!! When installing the Vararam you want to "reset" the ECU and let the computer relearn but if you are planning on the tune I would install it prior to tuning!
Thanks
Steve

Most tuner shops offer free-retunes (dyno runs still costs you) but re-tuning for a CAI should be free. Running a CAI before getting it tuned wont' hurt, but after the tune it will run better.

Ask your tuner what their policies are on re-tunes or tuning updates

IMO; Air filter/cai changes don't really require a tune, because the system is designed to "make the neccessary adjustments" by adjusting the fuel trims neg or positive (to increase of decrease fuel) However, whenever you perform mods that lean out the misture (intake/exhaust) the system will automaticlly adjust the LTFTs richer to compensate. The problem comes in the fact that the PE (power enrichment) factor is set, and ADDED to the LTFT so to speak, so that you may actually wind up running rich at WOT, thus not making as much power as possible.
Bottom line, go ahead and do any mods you have planned first, before you do your tune, and you will get better results IMO
