So me and my father have been thinking about what to do for my car, we know a 418 LS3 is in the future. Right now hes considering getting heads from RHS and a cam and the 92mm FAST, but he plans to have the heads and cam more suited to the 418 that we will be building later.
I feel those heads and cam would not be a good choice to put on a stock ls1 because they are going to be picked out for a 418.
I was thinking maybe purchasing a 383 stroker kit from TSP and a decent cam along with purchasing ls6 heads an intake to be ported in house. My reasoning is that later on once the 418 or whatever combo we eventually go with(no matter what it will be bigger than 400 cubes), we can swap the 383 over to my brothers '96 Impala SS or another needy car that we come up with.
What route do you think is better?
sorry for the length
The stroker LS3 setup will be a street car that does see occasional track time. I just feel that getting heads and cam specifically for the LS3 would be better than getting heads and cam that work for both the stock block and LS3. The hole reasoning for getting the heads and cam and putting them on the stock block is to give us time to prepare the LS3 and gather the funds to.
I think I'm still unclear on the objective Are there particular numbers be it HP or 1/4 mi times you're looking to hit? I mean if the ultimate goal is the 418 why not save your money to attain it quicker?
because I'm in college and play football so I only get certain times off so my dad wants to just jump into things, and he's wanting to go and buy the heads and cam right away. Well im thinking to satisfy him I could just get a cheaper stroker rotating assembly and doit all and keep that until I have the money to go with the LS3.
