Detonation at higher revs???
I noticed over the weekend that my 01 A-4 was detonating in first and second gear in the higher revs. I understand detonation usually happens while under a load. At least this has been my experience in the past.
I would think that in higher revs the problem wouldn't be there. It was fairly warm (in the 80's), and here in CA the highest octane obtainable is 91...
The car is stock. Except for the following mods: MAf screen removed, 160 thermostat installed, Z-06 air box (K/N) airfilter and a gear change (3:42's).
Is this a timing issue or lean condition??? What's the correction? Can I pull up error codes and get a better understanding of what's really happening?
Thanking you in advance for any advise.
Another possibility is some of the spark plugs may have lost their platinum puck in the combustion process. If this is the case, changing the plugs to a standard copper plug like the NGK TR55's will solve the problem.
It might be easier to start with the plugs as well as being cheaper.
Good Luck,
Chris, thanks for the advise. I will try changing the plugs first. The other option sounds expensive. Where can I take the car and have it done?
Thanking you in advance. John
