Default 99 C5 Harmonic Balancer questions

Hello,
Just noticed a "rapping noise", which turned out to be belt jumped off my
Harmonic Balancer. Has anyone done a harmonic balancer and belt replacement ? I was looking at ATI & SLP, and I don't race, so just curious to know if I should go with just a stock replacement, or upgrade to a better product?
Also, anything else, I should have replaced or adjusted while the Balancer is getting replaced???
thanks in advance!!

Are you sure you need to replace the balancer, and that the belt wasnt just in need of replacement? The belt could have became loose from the tensioner as well.

Anyway, to get the balancer out you have to remove the steering rack from the car to get enough clearance frot he balancer to slid all the way off.

There is no need to go aftermarket, but for the price of a new balancer why not go with sopmething of an upgrade. The belt is really easy to replace. Once you get the new balancer make sure to get a new bolt for the balancer as they are only supposed to be used once.

Here is the post from when I went through this. The summit UD pulley is still only about 145 and every bit as good as other hight priced pieces.

Do your self a favor and pin it though!!

Why not make sure your pulley is bad before you go replacing it. Especially if you are paying someone else to do it, the amount of labor involved is not worth the minimal gains one would get from just the pulley swap. I would take a look at the tensioner first and foremost, and also a new belt.
