I have what I think is too much rise in the front of the car (Zo6) upon hard acceleration. Am considering replacing the front spring.Need some help on this. Will this help the problem, somehow affect the overall handling of the car, or just present problems? How about spring rate? Thanks for the help?
You want the front end to rise under hard acceleration. This transfers weight to the rear over the tires. Drag racers go to extreme measures to exaggerate this. If you think your car is lifting more than a stock car should, I would suggest you look at your shocks not springs. A defective shock would cause this.
Thank's for the reply. Just had the shocks off and judging from the force needed to compress them, I thought they were okay. Am aware that this is good on the 1/4 mile. However, I will be going to VIR 4 or 5 times this year and was wondering if this lift was needed on a road layout. I think the car should remain relatively flat when accelerating out of the corners. Would new shocks help this?
Springs will have little to no affect on the front lifting. I suggest you change the shocks. Maybe some Bilsteins on the cheap side or look at some adjustables or coil overs on the high end.
WKMCD and John S. thanks for the replies. The car has 22,500 miles on it and I think they are the original shocks. Car had 6,000 miles on it when I bought it and I haven't changed anything. Will probably contact a suspension dealer and see what they suggest. I note, John, that you mention your car has very little rise. What changes have you made? I'm not looking for a total track car, just one that will handle better.
