Had the battery unhooked for my header install last weekend and did an oil change while I was in there (mobil 0/30 and delco oil filter). On the first test drive I notice higher than normal oil pressure 60-70 driving and idle low 60s. Today I drove it to work for the first time (30 miles), started the drive at 60psi, ended at 82 at idle. While driving the DIC reads as high as 101 at 2k RPM. I turned the car off and it reads 59psi with the motor off after 5 minutes.
Anyone ever heard of a pressor sensor going bad gradually like that? I always thought they were go/no go
The only issue with the oil change was that I had stab the old oil filter with a screw driver to get it to turn, nothing happened with the filter adapter or anything (just noting that).
Yes, its dying as you suspect. When you get it out, you will probably find oil inside the connector. To be sure, turn on the ignition without starting the engine. If it reads something other than zero...sensor is done.
If you all are buying sensors from a dealer and they fail right away or within a year, take them back. They are warrantied by GM for a whole year and its the only way to convince GM that they have a problem.
thanks! i changed mine today and the cut out method is the way to go. So easy to do. I recommend the dremel tool for cutting. The fiberglass cuts like butter.
