Default **engine Rebuild Question**

Hey guys! I am putting my ls6 back together and I dont have a manual, so I have a few questions. What engine manuals do you guys use and where can I buy one!?? Is there any info online that could help me out?

I am confused on the torque specs for the crank. I had it redone .10 under, do I use the stock torque specs (20 ft lbs plus 1/2 turn)...because the machine shop said he torqued them to 65 ft lbs and that seems like alot more. I also have the arp main stud kit, so does that make a difference? And do all the studs get torqued to 65 or what?? I need some help! LoL, any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks guys,

Dustin

DO NOT FOLLOW THE FACTORY SPECS! You have ARP studs, I would contact ARP and see what they recommend. Most fasteners on the LS1/LS6 are torque to yield, meaning they need to be stretched (thats where the 1/2 turn comes in) so you most certainly don't want to use those. As far as what the machine shop recommended... unless they work on alot of LS based engines I would take what they say for specs with a grain of salt. I would definitely give ARP a call.

Thanks for the info, I gave them a call and got the specs. That shouldnt make a diff. even thow I have a .10 under crank right?...that shouldnt throw off my bearing clearance?

.010 under crank has nothing to do with torque specs..But you do need bearings that are made for a .010 under crank...

Yes, make sure you get the proper oversize bearings to accomodate the now smaller crank journals. Don't just slap em in though, be sure to check for the proper bearing clearances. Use the stock GM specs for bearing clearance, AND USE PLENTY OF ASSEMBLY LUBE!

What makes you think that you can assemble an engine without knowing what your bearing clearances should be, how to measure them, and what your torque specs should be.

How about ring gaps, what are they?

Probably about as much chance of success as some vendors
