Just driving along in 5th gear and I when I try to go to 4th it does not want to come out of 5th... I had to pull on the shifter (but not too hard). Now I cannot get into 2nd, 4th or 6th. The shifter will not pull into the normal position for those gears. 1st, 3rd, 5th and Reverse all work fine???
Any Ideas???

First off you need to clarify what gears work and which ones don't. The post states that 2nd, 4th, and 6th gears do not engage and then later it states that 2nd does.
If I was guessing, it sounds like the shifter base may have come loose. You may want to open your console to take a look at the shifter. The shifter linkage has to be in the middle of the transmission rod, if it is too forward, then the back gears do not engage, if it is too backward then the front gears do not engage.
Are there any strange noises that you hear as you're driving?
Is it popping out of gear?
How is the clutch pedal?
How does the shifter feel?

Good and necessary first steps in locating the problem.
Also, you didn't say if you had an aftermarket shifter or stock shifter. If you have a Hurst, check to see if the rear stop screw is loose and preventing the shift lever from moving rearward enough for gear engagement. There may be other aftermarket shifters that have stop screws too. Not sure on that one, but the same rule applies.

Scotty, check the stops on the Hurst if you still have it - the rear one is probably loose and worked it's way forward, blocking the stick from engaging. Just pull the setscrews - the tranny has it's own stops.

How you been?
Hey Ed,
Been doing doing good... I will give you a call today... I switched back to the factory shifter...
I corrected my first post...
-Factory shifter
-Does not pop out of gear
-Clutch is working fine
-Shifter feels fine in 1st, 3rd, 5th and Reverse...

Note: All of the gears you're talking about require you to pull the shifter rearward (2,4 and 6).
Steve's Doten's post is a likely solution. If the shifter base (box) has shifted, it can cause this. Ed knows exactly what we're talking about and give you good info on that.

Cool beans... I am away on business right now but I will check the shifter base out when I get home... I did have the TQ Tube out... maybe I did not tighten it down enough...
shifter box loosened up on the TT, realign the box and tq the T40's; just a guess
Ed, The exact same thing happened to me a while back. I thought I ate the transmission. Since it's engaging the gears in one shifter movement direct I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that's the problem. It was on mine.
Found the problem... It was the "pin" on the front of the shifter. It had jump out of the hole (in the shaft) and was stopping the shaft from traveling the full distance...
Thanks for the guidance...
