I have a built level 5 tranny from a shop down in Florida. The tranny is only a year old. Yesterday getting on the highway when it shifts to 3rd, it's like netrual. I take it home and go for a short drive last night to scan it with HP Tuner, and it works. I go back home to get my cell phone to take it for a longer drive, and it goes back to nothing in 3rd.
Does this sound like maybe a leaking valve body once it warms up?
I have not done a C5 4l60/4l65e here in the shop yet.
However, the platform is the same. I see alot of times, that when rebuilt, the seperator plate is not replaced. They have an issue of the check ball getting stuck in the worn plate. Making third lack lube.
Thus burns the hell out of the third gear clutch pack.
Call Rodney at RPM. He's a great guy and will answer your questions.
I have been talking to TJ. Tranny is going to them next week. I just didn't want to send a tranny if it's something that can be fixed without pulling it.
Sounds like the 3-4 clutchpack is slipping. Verify the fluid level is correct first. Do you have a transmission cooler in there?
Yes I have a tranny cooler, and my temp was 180° when I had no 3rd.
I haven't checked fluid level, but there is no leakage. And if the fluid was low, wouldn't it slip in the other gears also?

Depends on pressure, among other things. Automatic transmissions were designed by either a comletely insane person or a genius. I still can't figure that out.
I didn't know that about the seperator plate. Makes sense. Thanks for the knowledge.
