Default 2001 bolt ons, should I get a tuner?

I have a 2001 that i bought with kooks long tubes, o2 sims, corsa exhaust, and vararram intake, hurst short throw shifter. The car smells kinda "gassy" which i'm assuming is because of the lack of cats, but was courious if the car is to the point that it would benefit from a diabo tuner. I'm also planning on getting a slightly more aggressive cam than the 02 zo6 installed into the beast sometime this summer, or next. If anyone had any suggestions, especially those that have used the plug and play tuners, I would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry If this has been asked before, i did search the forums and didn't saw something kinda like it. Looks like auto's get the most bang for your buck outta a tune, I'm just wondering if it's something I should do to get the best outta the bolt on's that the car already has on it.

THANKS for any input

I don't think you need a tuner. The smell is more than likely from not having cats. I ran mine without cats for a while and hated the smell. I put them back on.

A tune wont hurt the car by any means, I had my car dynoed after the headers went on just for the fact that the more air you have the more fuel. If you will be doing a cam swap I would wait to get a Actual Dyno tune until the new cam is in.

A hand held tuner wont do much for what you will need. There are certain fuel, air, timing tables etc that will have to be changed. A dyno tune will be able to do that for you.

M6 cars get the better power levels as they dont have as much for the power to go thru before it gets to the rear wheels.

From what I have read here on the Forum and on DiabloSports Forum, It sounds like you need a professional Tune. I have a Diablo Predator and it doesn't seem to do a whole lot.

I would say you will benefit from a tune, but if your doing a cam soon I would wait till then. I had a catless system on my '98 and had to go to cats because of the gassy smell. Nice to see another Indiana member!

you can do a lot of AFR tuning with a Predator; but you need a wideband O2 setup to know what changes to make... and to what extent. I personally have done this with a Predator and an Innovate WB AFR. The problem is... by the time you buy the handheld and the WB O2 - you're at the cost of a real dyno tune.

But I purchased my Predator mainly for A4 tweaking.

Gotta agree here with Mike, shift adjustments on an A4 are the main advantages of the handheld.

thanks for the input guys, I'm going to wait on getting a pro tune after more upgrades. I did some reading and it does seam that the auto's get about twice as much use outta the tuner than my M6 would. Plus I saw in LS1 tech that they actually tested a bunch of tuners, and got a max of 15 extra HP from the handhelds. Which isn't anything to laugh at, but isn't worth the 400 or so bucks to me.
