I have been having an issue with my C5 not wanting to start and I think I have narrowed it down to the starter, wanted a second opinon or 12 before replacing it. When starting the car it acts like a low battery, very slow to turn over, sometimes you have to get off the key and get back on it.
I took the battery to parts house and had it tested, it tested low but good, today I drove the car to town and had it tested in the car and the battery and charging system tested good. I had them do a starter test and the info was as follows:
Start of test: 12.5v after start 7v and it took 450amps to start.
this seems like a heck of a draw to me, should I go ahead and replace the starter? The cable to it is good and the nut on top is tight.
I would check the voltage at the battery cable that goes directly to the starter. The voltage should be around 12. If the starter is getting the full voltage at the red battery cable and is also getting a signal from the small purple wire (This wire comes from the Theft Detterant Relay), it is probably the starter.
I had intermitting problems with mine and replaced it. No problems since then, well at least with the starter.
