Even removing the windshield looks like a BIG JOB ! I can't believe that you have to loosen the fenders !
It can be cut out easily unless you are trying to remove it w/o breaking/chipping the glass.
The weatherstrip seal and reveal mldgs are removable and reuasble if you know where all the attaching screws are located. If you get in a hurry and start man handling them they can be damaged.
Did'nt see anywhere in the service manual procedure where it states to replace mldgs or weatherstrip

And the fenders are both trashed already, so we don't exactly have to be careful about it...

What year did they graduate? and the car is a wreck and doesn't have either front fender, so I'm not worried about it

Had to do this when doing the conversion from a coupe to a FRC.
It's not an easy job.
Best tip, wear leather gloves and long sleeve shirt. GM uses urethane (rubber) to bond on the windshield. Best way to get it off is using the wire rope windshield removal tool.
It's quite the work out on your arms. I got my tool from Eastwood.
