I would advise that this is NOT a DIY job. I talked to a professional windshield installer about putting in a C5 windshield. He said that they are the MOST difficult one to do. Some of his co-workers call in sick when they have to do a C5. If you do it, you MUST put in a new "rubber molding" or whatever they call it. He said most of the time they have to re-do it due to leaks.

I read your post again, if all you want to do is remove it, you might be okay. I will look up the Shop Manual procedure and post it.

Here it is, if you want pictures, PM me with your Email address: GOOD LUCK !

Windshield Replacement
Removal Procedure
Tools Required
J 24402-A Glass Sealant Remover (Cold Knife), or equivalent
J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool, or equivalent
Cartridge-type caulking gun
Isopropyl alcohol, or equivalent
Commercial type utility knife
Rubber suction grips
Razor blade scraper
Plastic Paddle

Remove the roof lift off panel (coupe) or lower the folding top (convertible).
Lower the door windows.
Open the hood.
Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement in Washers and Wipers.

Remove the plenum to hood seal. Refer to Seal Replacement - Hood Rear in Body Front End.

Carefully remove the air inlet plenum screen panel. Refer to Air Inlet Screen Replacement in Washers and Wipers.

Mark the location of the lower windshield supports with a grease pencil or tape.
Remove the lower windshield supports.

Remove the rearview mirror. Refer to Rearview Mirror Replacement
Disconnect the windshield antenna lead connection (if equipped).

Caution
If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.

Tape over the defroster outlets.
Cover the vehicle interior to protect the interior from broken glass.
Apply tape to the painted surfaces around the windshield in order to prevent paint damage.

Remove the windshield weather-strip. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement .

Remove the windshield side reveal moldings. Refer to Side Reveal Molding Replacement .

Remove the windshield side garnish moldings. Pull the molding with its retainers from the windshield frame.

Remove the 4 rearmost screws attaching the top of the fender to the wheelhouse.
Reposition the fender for tool access.

Tape or otherwise protect the fender from the cutting tool.

Caution
When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

Important
Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the windshield when removing the windshield. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the windshield. Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange. The only suitable lubrication is clear water.

Cut out the windshield use J 24402-A J 39032 cold knife, to remove the windshield.

Remove the windshield from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.
Inspect the following components for the causes of a broken windshield:
The flange of the windshield opening
The windshield reveal molding
The windshield
Inspect for any of the following problems in order to help prevent future breakage of the windshield:
High weld
Solder spots
Hardened spot weld sealer
Any other obstruction or irregularity in the pinchweld flange.

Important
If corrosion of the pinchweld flange is present, or if sheet metal repairs or replacements are required, the pinchweld flange must be refinished in order to restore the bonding area strength. If paint repairs are required, mask the flange bonding area prior to applying the color coat in order to provide a clean primer only surface. Materials such as BASF DE17®, DuPont 2610®, Sherwin-Williams PSE 4600 and NP70 ® and Martin-Semour 5120 and 5130 ® products are approved for this application.

After repairing the opening as indicated, perform the following steps:

You can get an L shaped W/S knife/tool at most auto parts stores.
It can be cut out easily unless you are trying to remove it w/o breaking/chipping the glass.
The weatherstrip seal and reveal mldgs are removable and reuasble if you know where all the attaching screws are located. If you get in a hurry and start man handling them they can be damaged.
Did'nt see anywhere in the service manual procedure where it states to replace mldgs or weatherstrip

The windshield is already broken, and it won't be replaced as it is a donor car for a GTM, Bobby is just trying to get it out of the way...

And the fenders are both trashed already, so we don't exactly have to be careful about it...

What year did they graduate? and the car is a wreck and doesn't have either front fender, so I'm not worried about it

Seal off the defroster ducts, etc. with a high quality masking tape that is made for painters use. (removes easily leaving no residue - unless you leave it on for weeks, months)

Hi Bob,

Had to do this when doing the conversion from a coupe to a FRC.

It's not an easy job.

Best tip, wear leather gloves and long sleeve shirt. GM uses urethane (rubber) to bond on the windshield. Best way to get it off is using the wire rope windshield removal tool.

It's quite the work out on your arms. I got my tool from Eastwood.
