Default '01 Z06 using oil....

I recently bought a 2001 Z06, with 7034 miles on it. I installed a cam, headers, and A & A Vortech S/C. The car dyno'd ay 580 rwhp, 490 rwtq on Monday. Checked the oil yesterday, and it was maybe 1/4" from the completely full mark. Last night I drove it to a test and tune, about 25 miles away. While waiting in staging, the "low oil level" message appeared. I ran anyway....just once....then drove it home. Nobody had any Mobil one synthetic. When I got home, I had to put about a quart and a half in, to reach the full mark. I know there are some issues with these early LS6's with oil consumption, but this seems a bit ridiiculous. I previously owned anothe '01 Z06, which I sold with 6600 miles on it. Never had to add oil between changes. That car, I changed the oil every 1000, to 1500 miles. This has no visible leaks. Is the only solution to do a complete tear down, and replaxce the rings? Does GM consider this a warranty recall problem? By the way, the 1/4 mile run sucked.....13.0 at 126 mph. No traction....I have a new set of M/T Drag radials for sale if anyone is interested over on the "parts for sale" forum.

The 01 Z06 early models had oil consumption issues something to do with rings being to hard and not seating properly. Do a search i am sure you will find some answers

GM will not warranty it anymore, way past the 3 year warranty period.

I have words ... but they'd get me banned from the internet ......

And NO, you didn't lose more than a quart of oil in 50 miles because of your rings (well maybe, if you completely forgot to put rings in it) you have a MASSIVE OIL LEAK from the engine.

Are you running the stock PCV system? That would be my guess as to where your oil is going, especally since you are under boost. Call A&A, they know their stuff and can probably help you out.

well I had oil consumption and it was 1.5 quarts in 800 hard miles of driving. 25 miles and 1 1/4 mile run is not going to cause that much losse from the ring. Better start looking other places.
