Has anyone got any experience runing the following (on a pretty stock C5 vette - blue calipers, orange tinted windows and a new pink hood IS a stock vette...) at a road race track (say Willow Springs (ie. V. fast :) )) and also on the road? I'm interested in your comments regarding grip, durability, toe in/out and camber?
BF Goodridge KD's
Michelin Piolots
Pirelli poll setters?
Hoosiers - just track use obviously for these babies?
Thanks Guys... :U
PS., Anyone had a shave before going playing too...
I have run both the Goodyear runflats and the Michelon Pilot Sports at Willow Springs. 4 seconds quicker with the Pilots. Now some of this is related to getting to know the track better and feeling more confident entering turn 8 and exiting 9. I was hitting 5th gear on the front straight for the first time as a result of better exit speed out of 9. I run my car bone stock, Corsa Indy being the only exception. Oh yeah, and Motul 600 in the brake system. I was running mid 1:38's on the Pilots. I know this time can be achieved on the run flats, but like I said, my best time was a 1:42 on the run flats. I think the Pilots instill a bit more confidence and give better grip, particularly through the fast sweepers and the rabbit ear. Anyway, with respect to camber and toe settings, I don't mess with it. Just run it as is and chew up tires. I have run a low 1:38 at Streets of Willow on run flats, which is more technical and slower than big Willow, but I am curious to see what times I will achieve with the Pilots. I can't wait to get back to Laguna Seca, my favorite track and post a personal best!
Hi Steve, how are ya? Its me - Andy, you weren't supposed to see this, I was trying to gain 'insider' info. so I could catch your butt next time we go to the track - LOL! Oh well, looks like there aren't many 'corners' guys on this site...
By the way, when did you achive your quickest laps, early in the session or towards the end? With the BFG's my quickest laps were right at the start just after they got warm, then things went down hill quickly after that. Quite a surprise really as the tires didn't feel overly hot after the session but were definitely exhibiting overheating characteristics. I did hear one guy in the know comment that it was probably the sidewalls flexing which was causing the overheating and the sidewalls were probably hotter than the tread. Unfortunately, I didn't check this at the track. I think I might be Hoosier bound next time, that seems to be the tyre, oops tire, of choice up at Willow.
