I was in a accident not too long ago, and it appears I cracked my rear spring along with a few other things that were replaced already. What's involved in replacing it?
I hope I don't have to remove the whole rear suspension, then I'll have no excuse to not install a converter and gears.
The rear one is the easy one. Just unbolt the two mounts that hold the spring to the rear suspension cross member, and then remove the bolts running through the leaf spring to the lower control arms and it comes right out.
Simple stuff :) The front is a bit more complicated.
special factory tool shown in service manual. Two attachment plates mount on each end of the spring with a long threaded bar connected between them. Cranking on the threaded bar compresses the spring for removal.
Not sure if there is a garage cluge to get around using the factory tool, never removed transverse leaf spring
You need to measure how much bolt is sticking up through the lower control arms and adjust to the same after replacing the spring. I think this adjusts the ride height of the rear.
