Default tire size activates the traction control???

I have toyo 35x18s on the back and 40x18 on the front. would this tire size combination cause my traction control to kick on at about 40-50mph??I thought I read one time that it may cause this to happen. I have to drive around with my traction off so is there any fixes to this besides new size tires...

Yes, having a larger (taller) tire on the front is the opposite of what the EBCM expects. The car is delivered with larger tires on the rear, so the EBCM expects to see the rear tires turning SLOWER than the fronts .... when it sees the rear tires spinning FASTER than the front tires it assumes the rear tires have lost grip and will intervene to bring rear wheel speed back into "normal" range.

Either change your tire set-up, or live with no Traction Control.

yep switch the front to rears unless there only 245's up front then you'll want to buy some new ones.

I believe that the backs are wider also so I would problably have to buy the same size as the fronts to work it out...

Re-read BlackZ06's reply; it's the height not the width.

When choosing tires have the sales guy show you the diameter or the number of revolutions per mile for each tire. Width and rim size are only part of the decision.

You can also have a tuner change the PCM to show the new sizes of tires.

If the circumference of the rear tires changed you will need to have the PCM reprogrammed to correct the spedometer. Your speedometer relies on the tire circumference to calculate speed..

As far as the traction control you will always have that if the front tire is larger (circumference or height) is greater than the rears, there is no reprogramming to fix that, all you can do is as already stated and turn traction control off and live with it......or change tire sizes to make the fronts smaller than the rears again (as when it was stock)

The PCM only has data loaded for rear tire diameter, and it is primarily used for speedometer readout (and shifting on A4 cars).

It does absolutely nothing for the traction control system...the "brains" of which are in a totally separate module.

I'll take your word for it. I thought that information was used for the EBTCM as well.

The PCM only controls the powertrain. The EBTCM measures wheel speeds based on hard wired expected frequencies from the wheel speed sensors.
