Whenever I make slow and tight turns, I get this rhythmatic clunk where it feels like the rear tire is running over a chunk of gravel. I get it in both first and reverse... almost like something is missing a tooth from a gear... the rear end feels like it slides slighty each time I do this...
The slower I go in this tight turn, the slower the clunk... seems to be once per rotation of the wheels. Anybody know if this is just an artifact of an LSD?
I've already done two flushes on the rear end and did add the limited slip additive... but my rear end seems to always be noisy; for example, if I'm in first gear at about 15mph... let off the gas and quickly tap it again.. the rear end will go "clank, clack" Again, is this normal or something seriously wrong? Any other kind of fluid in the rear end help me out?
Sounds like chatter. You may need a little more additive. I would try a 1/2 bottle more if I found it annoying. Mine doesn't chatter but if there's any debris then the front tires will slide a little because the LSD is trying to push the car straight.
There is normally some drive train play, so the on/off throttle at low speed noise is most likely not a problem. Remember that the play adds up front to rear (driveshaft bushings, transmission gear play, differential gear play) so the sound you hear is cumulative. Usually, you'll hear some whine if the differential pinion/ring gear clearance are out of tolerance.
Obviously, trying to diagnose like this is difficult at best. Your mileage will vary.
