All,
Of the the C5 models, I like them all, I had a 97 Coupe, a 2000 Vert, and now have a 2002 Z06, I have enjoyed every one of them, depends on what you want, I can say that the Vert has the most "Wow" factor from the average citizen but the Z06 has the best reaction from folks who know cars and appreciate what it is, all in all, guess I will buy another something, as long as it is a Vette.
look at everyones sigs,if you see lots of go fast goodies its a coupe.
if xtreme speed is your thing get a coupe and save about 4k over a vert and put the money towards mods.....but a low 13sec car with the top down is nothing to sneeze at.I live up north and my top is down almost all the time,
50 degrees and up.i love the vert.
I've had both. I have a vert now. Like said somewhere above , you can carry more in a coupe. That's the only thing I miss. IMO nothing looks better than the vert with the top down!!
Vert looks better with it's top down but the Coupe looks better with the top on. I like the Couple better overall because mine is a daily driver. If my C5 was going to be a garage queen I would love to have a Vert! :yesnod:
Vert looks better. I think it looks better with the roof up or down w/roof up it looks better than the coupe because it looks like the hard top. The coupe reminds me of a C4 with that back window and deck lid. :D :D
I wish I could buy the Coupe without the removable top and garner the added strength of the fixed roof with the opening back glass of the coupe.
Mtich,
One of the excellant things about the C5 is it's chassis strength. They all begin production without the roof, and the chassis on a vert is just as strong as the coupe. The roof structure does not add chassis rigidity.

Not always :) Some of us vert owners are into mods too.
I have owned two cars that had what I call the "WOW" factor. This is where you are driving down the street and people yell at you. Girls, kids: "We love your caaaaar. We wanta ride" Guys: Heeeeey, cool car, man. Both are convertibles with the top down. 60 metalic green Impala Con. 2001 Silver Vette. The vert with the top up is quiet and comfortable. I have two people in my town that use them as daily drivers and they hold up very well, but I live in the south. I love the way it looks with the top up too. Of course there is no right or wrong choice. They are all vettes and each offer advantages and disadvantages. I'd love to have one of each.
Mash
Convertable advantages:
- Looks with the top down
- More open feeling with the top down (coupe is pretty good too though)
Coupe advantages:
- Looks with the top on
- price
- better visability with the top up/on
- cargo space
- less noise with the top up/on
- warmer with the top up/on (only important if you live in really cold clinmate)
- you wont get kicked out the drags after your first run.
Unless the look of the vert and its only some what more open feel are enough to sway you then I think the coupe is the best option. But, for many, as you can see above, the advantages of the vert. are strong enough.
DA VERT,but than again I am most in love with the FRC design, dont beat me up!!!.I miss my 99 Vert too many cars in the stable and someone with a new 01' Z06 made me a swap deal no one can refuse(.357 Magnum S&W to my head.).His name was Don I forget he had a long Itallian name its on the tip of my tngue OH YA Carlia some thing.
But back to reality the Vert is a fine car,I saw what I believe to have been a 02'Electron Blue STUNNING.But lets all give thanks to our LORD that we drive the hottest American born car on earth. If $$$$ are better next year I,m thinking a Polo Green C-4 Vert with a Lunatti bottom end balanced & bp"d Super charger low compression and MUCHO BOOSTO.I,m trying to convince My BOSS to buy one but 1st he has us doing the ATI C-5 SC project cars and the demand has been so HI!!!! so that needs tending to 1st being some forum members are on line for having there cars be the test mules,I think we have or are close to having any combo you can imagine from stock c-5s up to c5r motors.Heck if my C5R equiped Z06 wasnt coming home from Lingenfelter with the TT,s I already have on the car I would jump on the XTREME deal Nate will even pick up your car in our enclosed 2 car capacity trailer for the price of some diesal fuel.Well anyway read the post its a great deal and the hi-output package looks great.Take it EZ but take it FAST.David S.
I like the look of a vert when the top is down, but I hate the look when the soft top is up. Now if it had an automatic retracting hardtop, it may be a different story. I also like the option of more storage space (for trips, shopping, …) that the coupe provides. Bu the way, I have a coupe, so I may be a little biased. :)
Just another person giving their opinion here. I personally like the vert better because I do not race my car and do not have to worry about the roll bar or anything. Also, with the vert I heard there is an option to buy a hard top to make it look like a FRC. I am not sure if that is true, but I thought I read it somewhere. So I figure if I really want to race I can always purchase a hardtop for my vert and as a bonus I can make it look like a Z06 :). Anyways, just my 0.02 on the idea. Remember we are all vette owners so let's keep it clean
