So I picked up my car from the dealer today after getting second gear fixed. I paid the $3500 bill and can’t believe $2250 in parts, I looked up the prices and all of them are over the MSRP, can they do that crap....if I bought the parts from gmpartsdirect I could get them for less than $1200. Is there anything I can do?
Depends on your state's laws ..... but generally if the price you paid was within a reasonable amount of the original "estimate" that you signed off on .... then no, they charged you what you agreed to pay.
Parts prices are another issue .... notice that when we talk prices for most items we talk about MSRP ... Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price ..... there is no law that I know of that says that a dealer or other seller MUST sell an item at MSRP .... they can sell for more, they can sell for less.
It is really important to understand, up front, what a dealer or other service provider is going to charge for their work. Whether you are getting a kitchen remodeled, a car repaired, or purchasing a vacation "package" .... pin down .... up front ... what are you paying for .... and are there "additional charges" that might appear .... get it in writing ..... and always always always ....

Did you know it was going to cost that much up front? You could have had a new Level 5 installed for that amount
The warranty company denied my claim due to nothing being "broken", so I ended up paying, they couldn’t give me a real estimate because they didn’t know what was wrong until they had it pulled apart... I guess I just need to vent, just because I own a vette doesn’t mean I ****e caviar and wipe with $100 bills...
it has been my experience that all dealers mark up parts when your car is in shop by 10-15 percent of list, also list varies at each dealer quite often.

several people gave you good recommendations ... rustyguns pointed out RPM could fix for cheaper than a dealer, and bgrant3830 guessed pretty accurately what the dealer would ask for (actually he was low too) and another user pointed out he had some spare trannies ..... you should listen to your friends on the forum .... we're here to help ... the stealerships (with a few rare exceptions) are only interested in helping your Corvette go faster by lightening your wallet .....

Bill; c'mon man; you should check all that our before giving them the OK to do the repair.
they're called "stealerships" for a reason. Sadly; if they gave you the price upfront, and you gave them the nod... there's probably nothing you can do about it.

Bcartman2, it looks like you really got bent over the chair... without a drop of lube.
I am just sitting here trying to think of any problem with my ZO6 that I would take it to the dealer???? ...............???????? Hmmm?????? NOPE, CANNOT THINK OF ONE!!!

I can think of one. You're having lunch and a grenade lands at your feet, You have 5 seconds to throw that thing and save your life. A dealership is across the street.
Most people would not have all the parts information to look up prices before authorizing the repair, BUT if I found out later, I would definitely go back to the service manager and negotiate a break on the parts.
You may not be able to get them below MSRP, but any discount is better than you have now.
I got my dealership to set up an account for me with a discount on all parts, including what goes to the shop.

I talked local dealer parts department manager into giving me the GM employee pricing on all parts I've ordered. That way I don't have to pay shipping costs, but it does mean I'll have to pay sales tax, which is somewhat of a trade off.

agreed; but you could shop around to other places to see what they'd charge for a rebuild/repair.
Most transmission "shops" give flat rate repair for "$XXX" regardless of how detailed/simple the repair would actually be. And that could be used to make compari$ons.
