Default Recent Convert to C5 from C3 forum

Hi guys, Recently sold my 70 vette and purchaced a 1998. With all the time and $$ that I put in that 1970, I was very dissapointed in how the car still rode and leaked. Even with all of the rubber (weather stripping) replaced, it still whistled down the road as well as leaked water when it got a bath. Complete suspention rebuild and road like a tank. Again, very dissapointed. Still love the body style, but will never own one again.
What a world of diiference in a C5. Quite, nice ride, and a blast to drive. Couldn't be happier. Thinking I got a pretty good deal on her. $19,500 with barely over 50,000 miles on it. 5,000 a year not bad I don't think. Just my opinion.

Have a question. While reading the manuel, it says that if you change your own oil, that one needs to purchase a "shop manuel" for this car, because there is a particular procedure neccessary for doing this. HUH?????????? Please someone enlighten me. What is so different with an oil change on these cars?? I know about re-setting the "D.I.C." on "oil life" monitor. Maybe thats what thier refering to. Help!

Welcome to the C5 Forum The only thing I know is that it takes the oil a long time to drain out of the pan. I usually wait 30 - 45 minutes to let the oil drain out. I hope that helps.

I think the shop manual reference is due to resetting the Oil Life Monitor.

Here's what you need to know:

You can manually drain it but it tastes terrible.Mobil 1 tastes the best.Or you can pressurize the dip stick tube and watch her flow
Welcome brother!

also the oil drain plug is in front of the pan. this means you have to either lower it back down again or raise the back end in order to get all the oil out.

If your interested, Fichtner Chev is selling all the C5 and C6 Helms shop manuals at $115 through the end of April. They have these manuals in stock so you don't have to order them yourself through Helms and wait. 1-800-234-5284 Ask for Bob in parts.

BTW, they are also running an extra discount (beyond the normal forum discount) on all GM parts too. Example: I needed some LS7 rocker arms and they sold them to me for $10.50ea. Sweet! So if you need some GM items, now's a good time.
