C5 Airbox straps

C5 Airbox straps
I replaced my stock filter and airbox with the K & N filter and the Z06 airbox. I used the gasket. Everything seemed to fit fine, but the tabs that snap the airbox straps closed kept popping open. I put the stock airbox back on with the K & N still installed and it still happens once in awhile. Anyone else had this problem?

That drove me nuts for a while. This is the cure. Take the back o the plastic buckle part and sand the back so it rolls over more if you know what I mean. I tried shims and bending the band and tape. Just grind t by hand on a flat piece of sand paper.

The straps on the airbox of my 1999 C5 coupe (Aug 1998 build) kept popping open when I drove the car. I was using the stock AC air filter.
The dealer replaced the straps under the new car warranty. The new straps are much harder to "snap" shut, but they do not release when the car is being driven.
You could buy replacement straps - they are very easy to replace. Perhaps there was a "batch" of straps that were weak or a little too long.

Also for consideration would be checking that the straps are anchored in the correct location. My assumption was at the base of the top/intake section but the correct answer was the base of the lower housing. If the hook was caught somewhere other than all the way there, the tension would be varying degrees of wrong.
