Default C5Z Front Calipers on Rear??????

I am sorry to write this because I know I have came across a thread like this before and I just couldn't find it.

Can the C5Z Front Calipers be used on the rear??? If so what do I need? My current situation is that I have C6Z front calipers and was thinking that instead of buying C6Z rears I could use the C5 ones. I am not too sure about this though. If this is possible, would I be able to use the front rotors too? I do have 19s and 20s so there will be no problem with clearance.

Please help!

The upright is the same front and back so both ends have the same brake mounting points. I know some of the drag racers have put the backs on the front so you can do it the other way too. The only thing is you'll lose the e-brake with front rotors on the back.

Because the stock rear rotor has a mini drum brake surface machined inside it (for the E-brake shoes).

In order to run front calipers on the rear, you also need to run front rotors on the rear, and those rotors have no provisions for this E-brake.

Oh ok, I got ya.... So all it possible then with what I already have???

If I was to buy steel lines for all the way around and was planning to do what I am, would I have to get C6Z Front lines for the front and C5Z Front lines for the back??? What would work???

I don't see how the lines would change. The go to a bracket in each wheel well and then a flex hose goes to each caliper from there. The caliper on the end of the flex hose should have no bearing on the steel lines being used.

Not sure what you're trying to accomplish ? If you just want some bigger brakes to fill in the space the best and cheapest mod is to do the C6 Z51 rotor and bracket upgrade.

What you're doing will through off your brake balance and it could wind up causing you all kinds of problems.

A lot of money goes into the design of a BB kit to work with the stock plumbing master cylinder and brake lines.

Unless you're a drag guy only I would not recommend what you're doing.

Gotcha. Would you recommend that I were to just spend the money and get the rear set of C6Z calipers/rotors??? That would be the complete set. Do you see any problems with that upgrade (c6z brakes on a c5z). The rest of the braking system should be able to support the calipers, shouldn't it??? Thanks again for the reply.

It really depends on what you're going to do.

If you're in it just for looks (i.e. Bigger Rotor) to fill the space, you can go with the C6 Z51 rotors and brackets for about $600. You would use your same calipers.

If you're trying to get improved braking at the same time you could use a more aggressive pad.

Your braking (stopping) ability is limted by traction (tire contact) more that anything with a vette.

I have 14" Wilwoods all the way around but I also have massive tires (315's (F) and 335's (R).

Your ABS system also comes into play as it senses lock up and releases the brake pressure.

To take advantage of the C6 Z06 brakes, you would need bigger rubber and probably different rim off-sets to clear the calipers.

I'm not sure what your current off-sets are but if post up the question or call John @ CCW wheels, he would know.

Hope that makes things a little clearer. Also a set of stainless steel brake lines from VBP will greatly improved your brake pedal feel along with some Motul 600 brake fluid.

C6 Z51 rear rotors are about 1 in. larger. Cost is about $225 for rear
Z51 rotors & brackets.

C5 stock size
