The external air temperature sensor has apparently failed...each GM model has a different sensor default reading.

Yes, it means the temperature outside the car is 5 degrees below zero.

I honestly don't know what the default reading is on a C5/Z06...on my '02 Trailblazer is was something like 38 degrees when the sensor failed...

The "default" value is 69 ... but it is used when there is NO data coming from the sensor. Your sensor is sending data ... the HVAC has no way to know that it is incorrect......

Order part number 10248414, it is about $10.00 at the dealer ..... you might find it cheaper from a supporting vendor ... but for a part that cheap ... the shipping may out-price the dealer.

Install is 5 minutes, maximum ..... look in the frame rail area, passenger side .... almost directly below the headlamp. Once you see the new part you will know what to look for.

IMPORTANT: After replacing the sensor, you will need to drive the car for several minutes before the HVAC will start to take readings from the new sensor. People have installed a new sensor, started the car, seen the "old" temperature and thought that they still had a problem .... nope .... just go drive the car ......

After installing LEDs into mine I benchchecked the HVAC and it did indeed default to 69 degrees with no input from the External temp sensor.

Hey BlackZ06 are you ever wrong?????
