the RT 66's are the best I've tried....
Best advise I can give you is try to get a live hearing of both the PRT's and the Rt 66's. Then buy the ones you like and the hell with anyone else's opinion.
I have Rt 66 and love them Great growl and I notice no drone, of course, msuic is usually turned up anyway.
I've got the RT 66's and yes there is a drone for me at least but only in 6th gear at about 65-70 mph... Solution: I just use 5th, run a little higher RPM say about 2000 and it's good. MPG does not seem to suffer.
Doesn't quite work for me, I have an A4
Sigh, just doesn't seem to be an exhaust out there with the sound I want, the tips I want, and with no drone... Never thought it was going to be so hard when I decided to put on a new exhaust. At least the X-Pipe decision isn't hard. I think I'm probably going to end up putting on Ti's, I just wish they had oval tips like the C5s all had .

Been trying, no responses from anybody local with 66's and a stock or close to stock C5. Would love to hear some in person and more importantly take a ride and listen to them in the car at cruise. Wish more people would make a video of their car's exhaust both in and out of the car. There are only a few online of the 66's, and only one was on a stock C5 if I recall correctly. I'm definitely going to make a video of my new exhaust when I get it installed so I can make a contribution to all the others that are in the same boat looking for an aftermarket exhaust for their C5.

Looks like your up by Santa Clarita? I may be able to meet you half way (I work in Hollywood) on Tuesday or Wednesday night if you wanted to check it out first hand. I'm pretty much stock but only until Friday, then I'm getting an LS6 intake manifold put on. Still stock to some but it's a slight upgrade to me. If I can I will get a clip of my exhaust Monday night but it wouldn't be until real late. I might not be able to get it until mid week though. I'll try though.

That would be cool, just not sure if I can hold out that long . I've been wanting to buy a new exhaust for weeks and I had resolved to make a decision by tonight. It's past midnight though so I've already held out longer than I planned . Definitely want to see any video you can get online, and I'll try to hold out til mid-week without making a purchase, but no promises .
I don't think listening to audio out of PC speakers is going to really give any sense of what the exhaust sounds like. There are too many variables involved in the recording and playback processes.
And the subjective opinions of others aren't much better. One person's "too loud" is another persons "not loud enough." Example, I have heard Corsa's in person and to me they are awful sounding. Others hear Corsa's and they think they are the most wonderful thing ever. What seems not loud to me, will seem too loud to someone else. As such you can't really go by what others say.
I think the best thing to do is be patient, and try to go to local Corvette shows, research local Corvette clubs and meet others with the exhaust, or try to hook up with someone on the forum who lives in your area and has the exhaust. Then go for a ride or at least hear the exhaust in person. Then you will know what is too loud or not.
I have the Route 66's on my 99 vert with a 6 speed. I like the sound, but drone...yes. On an incline in 6th between 1400 and 1800 rpm which is about 65 to 78 mph there IS drone. On the flat or down hill...none, no drone. So, at 75 mph down the freeway in the hills there is enough drone that after a couple of hours I wanted to make a change. Here is the fix or cure that worked wonders for me. The Frost King mod! (Look this up in the seach) Just the back half was enough to greatly reduce the drone (99% or almost completely), but I ended up doing the front (cabin area) as well. As a bonus, the entire car is MUCH quieter from the road noise, and better insulated from the engine heat creaping into the cabin. If I had installed the frost king first I wouldn't have known there was a drone. Route 66's are a nice muscle car sound without attracting too much attention (negative attention from the cops) and still mellow and quiet enough for a Saturday cruise, or a trip, or a daily driver. If you never change the exhaust I still recomend the Frost King mod. It's well worth it. MY two cents worth...
Thanks for the feedback, that's 3 or more people that have said that there is some drone with the 66's, so it's helping me to form an opinion. Hopefully tomorrow or Wed. I'll be able to meet up with someone that has a set and get a chance to hear for myself what they sound like in the cabin at various RPMs.
Will definitely look this up mod, nobody has mentioned it previously.
Cheers
