Just bought a 2000 coupe. The right window does not want to go up or down.
Is there an interlock for the right front window, such as when you have a child or dog in the car? I thought I checked it out before delivery, but maybe I missed it.
The passenger window motor contacts get contaminated from non-use. Try the simply first. Lightly but firmly, rap downward on the window while pushing the down button. If that doesn't get it moving, then check the fuse for it and finally open the door panel to replace the motor itself as the usual problems.
go to top Bar in this forum & click on the Other tab...select Tech Tips, C5, and when it opens scroll to the instruction on How To- unstick the passenger window...
I'll tell you what I'd try if it was my car. I would not rap down on the window. Turn on the ignition, hold the power window down switch and slam the door firmly. Do it several times if necessary. If that didn't start it to working, I'd wiggle the wire bundle in the door hinge area while holding the window down switch. Then if that didn't get it moving, I"d remove the door panel, the speaker, and tap on the motor while holding the switch. If you get it going with the tap or door slam, run it up and down occasionally to keep the contacts in the motor loose. You may also have a bad door control module and there are fixes in the search function to explain how it's done. But, for me, I'd try the easy stuff first. Post what happens.
Got the problem solved. I took off the door panel. Somewhere along the way (factory or later) someone had used a single pop rivit to secure the handle brace to the door. I pried that out and redid the fiberglass in the door area. Used two 1/4 x 20 nutserts and two allen head screws to secure the panel. When I tested the motor I held down the window control, and the relay clicked and then I could hear the overload click open, so I knew it was a stuck motor. Put in a new motor and it is fine. Thanks for all the help.
I took my motor out, took it apart, sanded the armatures and lubed it and put it back together.Been working great for over a year. The motors are fine, we just never use them and they stop working.Make a habit of using both windows at least twice a week .
This appears to be a very common issue with C5s, even with later ones like my '04 Z. My passenger window started acting up a few months ago. A few sharp raps on the door-pull while pushing down on the switch fixed the problem. It's stuck a couple of times since, but I exercise the window now whenever I drive the car and it seems to be 100% OK now. GM must be using cheap contacts in their window motors.
