GMPP - engine and transmission questions

First issue is oil burning. I'm not sure what is excessive enough for them to do anything but it's burning around 3-4 quarts per oil change (at least for this first one). No blue smoke or abnormal smells like burning oil, but when I check it, it is indeed a quart low or so every 1000-1500 miles.
Second issue is grinding in the transmission. 3-4, since warming up it hasn't done it yet, but when temps. were cooler it would grind occasionly when going into 4th gear. The other issue is difficulty sometimes to get it to go into reverse. It feels like it's in gear, but when I let off the clutch a bit it gives that grind saying nope and at other times it'll make a grinding noise when getting it into gear, but it will pop in. Does this sound like a typical synchro problem? I'm gonna go ahead and change the clutch fluid and see it that helps, but just seeing what others experience has been with this.
Finally - are both these covered by the GMPP? I would think the oil burning is, but I'm not sure about the transmission - are synchros standard wear parts?
It's an 01 with almost 42000 miles on it if that matters.
Thanks guys.
your plan and small print. I can tell you one thing since i use to work for
a dealership. They have the power to do what is called Goodwill, meaning
they can get something covered under warranty if they really want to, it
all depends on your relationship with the dealer as a customer and the
regional warranty rep.
