Default O2 sensor question

Hello,

I've been getting code P0161 (Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Heater Circuit Bank 2 Sensor 2) a few times a week and had some questions.

I'm currently planning on installing a set of LT headers which will render the rear O2 sensors redundant but in the meantime, will a defective OS2 sensor have any negative effects on my car? Will it rob some power by running my engine too lean/rich?

The code always comes up with the H C flags so it sounds fairly intermittent.

I'll do a visual inspection of the sensors/wires when I install my CAGs defeat but would it be worth swapping my left/right sensors around? (If that's even possible.) I figure it'd help determine whether it was a bad sensor or bad wiring.

Thanks!

Ken.

Those rear sensors are there to tell you if your cats are going bad. You may have a bad cat. You can have the rear sensors tuned out. You can swap the back sensors too, if you want to see if one of them is bad. Are you going to put new cats in when you install the LTs?

Thanks for the reply!

I'm planning on getting a set of LG Pro's with high flo cats so I'll be replacing the entire thing. I can live with the inconvenience of a check engine light for now... as long as its just an inconvenience which won't affect the power and fuel consumption.

It's my understanding that when the check engine light is on, the computer is running with it's programmed table and not running off the sensors. It will run fine, just not a good as it should. I doubt mileage will change very much.. depends on your driving habits, you may actually get better gas mileage.
