I am building a supercharger for my sons GOPED. It's a weedwhacker type engine. I know this is a crazy idea. But I already have it built. I pumps out some serious air. I used the parts from an old Dustbuster. I will test it tomorrow. Here is the idea....
I will have a switch that turns on the blower once the Goped is moving. The rider hits the switch and it "hopefully" will provide boost.
This is only an experiment. If it works then I will move on to a mechanically driven one.
Do you think a little 2hp 2 stroke engine will realize any gain? Am I nuts...never mind..I am :D
Re: Electric Motor powered Supercharger Question (chuckster)
I think you have a very bad case of mod fever. Think about it you are putting a SC on a GOPED. Man you are  I say go for it. It is only a GOPED maybe you should get N2O for it next
Re: Electric Motor powered Supercharger Question (99 Corvette)
I'm suprised. I thought this thread was gonna be about something else.
Yeah, I think you're on to something with the 2-stroke engine. I've been building/tuning on little 50cc units for years...they are very efficient. I also think you're a really cool Dad for doing this. Have a great one
Re: Electric Motor powered Supercharger Question (HGlide82)
An A&P instructor I had connected a automotive air pump to a gocart engine.
A Honda engine was the only one that could take the added pressure and it won every race. The mod. was deemed not leagal. :seeya
Re: Electric Motor powered Supercharger Question (chuckster)
Whoooo Hooo IT works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had my son try it out...He had it at WOT and then hit the switch to turn on Supercharger. He said he felt it come on as it spooled up. Pretty cool.
I really need to design it to work mechanically so it varies the boost up to WOT.
Re: Electric Motor powered Supercharger Question (chuckster)
You are only going to get so much of an advantage out of boost on a two stroke. The main advantage I could see would be the increased flow expelling more of the exhaust making for a better combustion charge. As both the intake and exhaust port are uncovered at the same time you will start spitting more and more raw fuel through the exhaust.
