Just bought an 04 convertable. love it. When turning at slow speeds left or right I get a metalic clatter under the vehicle, is this normal or does anyone know where to start looking. Everything else sounds and feels great. Gary Tn
Can you isolate it all with respect to which direction it's coming from? If it were coming from one of the corners of the car it's probably a wheel bearing and they just didn't catch it.
I had major problems with the rear differential in the first year or two after I bought my car, and it would make a grating noise similar to what you described when I was turning slowing around corners at like 5-10 mph.
Sounds like it could be the limited slip clutches. Try adding a bottle of GM slip lock additive and doing a few figure 8's. If it's the diff that should cure your problem.
If you go in tight circles to the left slowly and then to the right (do several in succession), does the clatter disappear? You may have old or low rear gear oil or not enough of the limited slip additive. Can you feel a little bump or surge when you turn tight and slow? If not, maybe something in the ujoints or wheels.
