Does anyone know what is going own with my possessed C5? It is locking and unlocking on its own anytime the remote is near it! I've switched the passive button. It's still doing it!
I am a new Vette owner, so I may be doing something wrong. What position does the passive switch need to be at to make it stop? And does it sound like the remote is broken?
Any info would be so helpful!
You probably have a fob going bad. The passive switch is probably shorting out. You may be able to take the fob apart and clean the contact strip on the switch. If that doesn't help, you may need a new fob. Also try taking the battery out of suspect fob and I bet the problem goes away.
What year C5 do you have? Is it a 97-99? If so, you have the passive system, you may want to get it checked by Chevy.
I would definitely start with changing the battery in the FOB.
If that doesn't work, perhaps something nearby the car is interfering with the frequency of your FOB...do you have a garage door opener or a universal wireless switch nearby that you're using or that is being used?
Thanks for the reply, its a 98.
Funny you ask about the garage door opener! That's giving me problems too.
I do have the passive switch on my remote. What setting turns off the automatic lock/unlock feature?
The passive switch on your remote will turn the auto feature on or off. Have you tried pulling the battery out of the fob and seeing if the problem goes away? Do you have another fob in the house that may be the problem? My spare fob on my old '99 went bad in the kitchen drawer and caused the same thing yours is doing. I took the fob apart and cleaned it up good and it worked fine.

Hmm...so BOTH the Garage opener AND FOB are giving you a problem. There's gotta be some kinda interference coming from somewhere. Are there any other electronics around? Something has to be the cause. What's happening with the garage opener? Is it opening and closing on its own also? Do you have a radar detector?
Imagine that it's a switch on a wall in the house that "does nothing" just like that commercial.

Now that is funny... sorry. Isn't the switch is in the neighbors house.
