A local performance shop has been offered some sort of magazine article on a 427LS1/6 buildup... The magazine has offered to pay for the install but the car owner has to pay for the parts....
I am really intrigued by this offer and was wondering how much parts for a 427C5R block with all of the parts required would cost.... I have 10K available and was wondering if the costs for the parts would be covered with that amount... I have a 2002LS1 so some of the parts could be used again..(I dont know which ones)...
The shop has also offered to finish the work in 3 weeks, from the data of contract signing...he also said that 450RWHP is pretty much gauranteed.. and he will upgrade the Tranny including TC if I just pay for parts...
HE said that the needs the exposure and has given me 12 days that he will need the car for showing to the public at a local dealership... all of the days are during the winter and he will trailer the car himself...
Re: Question about 427 Engines... Costs (NewVetteLover)
Man, this sounds like a damn good deal. Try to track Mako down and ask him about this. Mike Morgan (Morgan Motorsports) just did a killer 427 w/c5r block on his 01 Z06. He could prob give you a good idea. He's so proud of his car he loves to talk about it with people. (And I don't blame him a BIT!) Also, you might even call Morgan Motorsports. I have only heard great things about those guys and am guessing they would prob answer any questions for you as long as you are courteous and do not take up too much of their time.
Re: Question about 427 Engines... Costs (NewVetteLover)
Hopefully, one of the forum tuners will respond so you can get some numbers first hand. I am having a C5R 427 installed at ARE. I'm pretty sure Nick told me that the short block alone (with all the upgraded components) cost him over $12k. Just the C5R block is around $4k. You can install a stroker kit in an LS1 block (422 ci) and save the cost of the C5R. The 450 rwhp is pretty easily done. Best of luck. Hope you can swing it.
Nick from ARE (Agostino Racing) could definitely hook you up with any parts that would be needed for this build. These days he seems to have mostly everything in stock for big cube LS1s.
Give him a call at 905-420-9195 and see if he can be of any assistance. He will also probably have some good tips for you in regards to the building of it.
Re: Question about 427 Engines... Costs (NewVetteLover)
The C5R block is over 6k just by itself, so I don't think you will be able to get all the parts you need for under 10k. If you went with a resleeved LS6 block, the parts could probably be had for about 12k or so. I would recommend giving Nick at ARE a call as well. They're building my 422 right now too.
Re: Question about 427 Engines... Costs (RichieRich)
The deal described in this thread is a smoking deal. The C5R block alone is around $6300; the billet crank is around $2500; etc., etc. You should have at least $12,000 of your own money available.
Ritche Rich: Have we ever spoken? I do not remember speaking about my car as it is not yet finished--almost. Or were you saying MMS is speaking about it?
The car is very nice. The trick has been having both bodacious power AND great drivability. The first time the car came out it was 516rwhp/497?rwtrq. However, with our 91 pump gas in CA it was pinging too much and I did not want to add race gas, etc.
Next, we took out timing--507rwhp/491trq. The car was still a bit wild for my daily driver duties--noise, shake.
Finally, we dropped the compression ratio a bit and changed to Corsa Touring mufflers--499rwhp/485rwtrq. The car now has a very nice idle (much less shake) and is quiet until you put your foot it it--then it soulds like the beast that it is. If I was into a race-only application, I would have kept the first or second tune.

Thanks guys but I lost the deal.......
The shop owner wanted a descision today... and he got an ok from a Camaro SS owner in my area..... I guess I wont be building a BIG CUBE motor anytime soon but I am thankful for the information you gave me....
I dont need a power boost since I can barely handle the car stock... but I figured the deal was good but ... whatever happens... thanks

That is a shame. :( However, you would have never got it done for $10,000 toward parts. Here is what is going into ours... http://c5.techbottle.com/427.htm

Yeah I kind of figured that out after looking around for quality parts... Oh Well... I hope you have a great time with your 427....
This is only my second Vette and I am young.. 21.. you have a family and everything.. and I cant understand how people afford these kinds of "Toys"... At my age I have nobody else to worry about financially but myself...
I congratulate anyone who can afford to live comfortably with a family and have a nice fast car....
I think that I will just have to wait a few years for more power... but 350FLYWHEEL HP ... is enough for me.....(I drive a Nissan Sentra for a winter beater)
