Default New owner wants some upgrades

Hello I would like some advise about doing some minor upgrades to my
C5 I'am looking at the Vararam system and doing the exhaust what are the pro's and cons of doing this. My car is fast already just dont know well enough to leave alone and you just have to do something to them LOL so lets here from some of you what would be good to do to it. It's a 2000 with 50k and no work done to it

So after all you've been through, you're not recommending a cam???

Sorry, I just had to.

Heads, Cam, Headers, Exhaust and a hot, long legged beautiful blond will make it much faster!!

Do a search on Modifications Primer. From there you should have a good idea of what avenue you want to travel.

If you want safe, easy, quick, bolt-on mods, I'd install a Vararam CAI, Cat-back exhaust with X-Pipe (more for sound than HP), and then get a professional tune. About $1K for the Vararam and tune combined, and the exhaust can range from about $750-$1500 installed including the X-Pipe. All told you should definitely pick up another 50hp, as well as better gas mileage and better throttle response.

All depends on how much you want to spend and how much you want to mess with the stock configuration of the car. Once you start mod'ding you'll never be satisfied .

If you want a "budget build" that will really improve performance and help w/gas mileage I would do this.

Vararam $300
Ebay headers/x-pipe $500
Granatelli Exhaust $500
Tune: $200-400(dyno tune not necessary)

So for about $1500 you will have about 330-340 at the wheels, and be capable of running mid 12's in good air on street tires.

So basically with a Varam and Tune..........being that exhaust is just for sound....you can pick up 50hp ?? I'm kind of in the same boat as the OP.

TIA

Lol, with a vararam and a tune you would probably only see 20 horse at the rear wheels. However, you would probably run 4-5 tenths quicker.

So, Headers/X-pipes, Intake, and a tune should produce about 50hp. Aftermarket Exhaust is basically for sound.

Some good hp gains for a little over $1k

Yep. That ought to be just enough to give you the mod bug. Next thing you know, your wife and dog will be for sale.

By the way I'm running a sale. Buy the dog and get the wife for free.

Well for me sold the wife to some other fool he T.O.P. I got the dog and bought the vette (some say mid life crisis)

I say investment in my soul.

Now who has the best price for the Vararam and what model should I get would it be this one.

http://www.corvettesofhouston.com/pr...products_id=72

Also would a throttle body be good buy ?

TIA and keep them coming

Don't know about the Vararam but I would check in the C5 parts section. Make sure they have some time in here and take Paypal. Every once in a while someone gets taken for a ride.

As for the throttle body, every little bit helps. I have read performance results from changing them, but it seems like they always get a tune along with it, so who's to say how much they got from the tune vs. the throttle body? It will definitely help to get a nicely ported one. See them from time to time in C5 parts too. I don't hesitate to buy used parts that aren't wear and tear items.

As for mods, I started out with a Magnuson supercharged car and when a valve broke ( which I could have fixed for 3500), I went nuts and my tab is up to 14k now. Maybe I'm going into an early midlife crisis. I say who gives a crap! I'm having fun!

Don't worry about a TB on a stock internal LS1. If anything, get yours ported for $150
