I just bought a C5 and it has the B&M Ripper shifter. There is a fair amount of noise coming through the shifter hole and I believe I know what the problem is. I took the radio console off and the stock lower rubber boot was cut very wide I guess to accomodate the shifter. So there is no lower seal to isolate noise to the cabin. I was considering just buying a new stock lower rubber boot but the hole on the stock boot is much larger than the ripper shifter because the o.d. on the ripper is smaller than stock.
What has anybody done to seal for noise on a B&M Ripper?
There's the stock B&M boot but that only seals the shifter mechanism itself. And I do have that one present and in good condition. The stock rubber boot seals the tranny/torque tube tunnel from the interior. I'm getting noise through there. I wonder if there's a problem with my torque tube or something then? It's definitely RPM dependent.
I did this "double" boot thing on my Hurst. It worked very well and doesn't hinder shifter movement. Too bad the post is so old that the pics don't show any more.
