Default Coolant temp gauge problem

I have a 2003 Z06 with about 5000 miles....gauge worked fine until today after installing a Vararam intake and a shift eliminator for the transmission.

I took for a drive and noticed that the temp was pinned at the max 250 +..stopped and checked vehicle and oil temp and was fine not overheated. I replaced the coolant temp sensor and played with the car a bit.

If you cycle the ignition off and on you can get the gauge to read correctly for a period of time....start it or leave it sitting for awhile with the ignition on it will eventually pin itself again at the max. The actual temp readout in degrees reads XXXX when it is acting up otherwise it reads the correct temp.

Question.....could this be linked to what I did today.....disconnected battery to install the shift eliminator other than that and the install - not sure of the issue......Hopefully someone can help me diagnose the problem ??? Thanks.

I also performed a diagnostic check and found the following on the 10PCM which is the powertrain module - it shows a PO116C code which relates to the coolant temp sensors ? Not sure what this means though and the fix. Any help would be appreciated. Read about a reset - I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery but not sure what else to do ? Codes resets just clears memory and will not solve the problem ?

After much reading on my own and searching through forums I followed the procedure below which should be done whenever the battery is disconnected...found this as advice also to help car adjust to a vararam install....pretty simply and fixed the problem right away - yah!!!!

1) Insert key into ignition and turn to the “ON” position, but, DO NOT START THE ENGINE.
2) Open the engine compartment fuse box cover and remove the two 10 amp fuses from position numbers 16 & 23.
a) According to the manual there are two fuse boxes. Use the engine compartment fuse block for this procedure not the instrument panel fuse block.
b) Engine Compartment Fuse Block (correct one): 16 is Powertrain Control Module A and 23 is Powertrain Control Module B.
c) NOTE: Your DIC will now display “check” messages for ABS, etc… Do not worry as this is normal.
3) Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position.
4) Return to the engine compartment fuse box and re-insert both 10 amp fuses for positions 16 & 23.
