I have been having a high voltage issue on my car for a few weeks now. I have tried all the normal stuff.. checking grounds, battery terminals, charging battery, even used Bill C's post and took out the ign switch and cleaned it up (had a couple burned spots on it). But none of that has fixed my high voltage issue.
Basically, when I put the key in and turn it to the On position my car is already reading close to 15v. I have verifyed that the battery is not reading that. When I start the car it creeps up to above 18v and the IPC just shuts down. I am thinking my problem is in the IPC. I have searched the forums and found a couple people that had this problem and they have said they had to replace the IPC.
Now my questions. Do I have to replace the entire IPC or can I just replace the bread board in/behind the guages? My car has a HUD so I am assuming I have to have a HUD IPC, but if I can just replace the board will it matter if its a HUD IPC or not? Also, if I have to replace the entire IPC, can anyone suggest a good company to send the new IPC off to so I can get the milage corrected to my current milage?
sounds to me like you need to replace the alternator. i'de start by removing it from the car and having it tested before i started replacing expensive circuit boards. any local automotive electrical shop should be able to test and/or rebuild it for you if that is the problem.
So you're saying that the IPC isn't reading the correct voltage and that it doesn't agree with the actual voltage. Right?
Yep, thats it. The IPC reads approx 4 volts to high. It does not do it 100% of the time, but it does it about 80% now. I have checked the battery and the alt.. both are putting out the right voltages.
