Hi johniebob -

Yes - I bought a set of aftermarket Z06 chromies for my Z06 in stock replacement sizes.

I had them balanced several times, but never was able to get them satisfactorily balanced.

I tried the Hunter GSP 9700 Road Force Variation balancing machine too, but no dice.

The tires were very good factory original F1 Supercars that were perfectly balanced on the factory rims.

So - I sold them to another local vette owner (of course I made it clear that I was not satisfied with the balance...) and bought some CCW's.

I now only consider factory EOM or high quality billet rims.

On a 98, you could have weak shocks, particularly if the wheel/tire setup you bought is heavier. This might cause steering wheel shake.

best regards-

Thanks, I did have a bad back rear shock. This helpped. Still may have some shake.

It still must be something else.

There's a good chance that it's your rotors that are bad..I replaced mine several months back and the shimmy/vibration that I had went away...

How can you tell if a shock is bad, rather how do you test it without having to take the shock off? In our work vehicle, we too have shaking and we replaced the tires and now also a bushing was bad so had to replace the whole rear strut assembly. Thought that was the fix. To be determined......

i have this same problem so i have bought new rotors and pads, and also plan on balancing the wheels soon. Prior to replacing the rotors at what speeds did you feel the shaking/vibration??? cause i feel mine like at 70mph...
also does it make a difference if I balance the wheels before or after i change the rotors and pads??... i really hope this remedies the situation
