Default PROBLEM WITH TIRE SENSORS HELP!!!!!!!!

I took my car to discount tire about a month ago to have the 2000 chrome wheels installed on my 97' vette. I also had them replace the 2 front tires with the goodyear F1 EMT runflats. Right away I started having problems with the sensors....It would say that some of the tires had low preasure and when I would check them, they would be fine. Then everytime I turned the engine on the computer would say "check tire monitor system" I took it back to discount tire and they said it just needed to be reset at the dealership. I took it back and had them reset (paid $70 labor) and then the problem continued the day I picked it up. My front tire doesnt even show a preasure. The dealership says it could be a damaged sensor on the left front that is messing everything up....they said they can go in and look at it (which will cost another $70) and find out what is wrong....also, I have an extended warranty (aftermarket) Does anyone know if something like this is covered?
Also, do you think its possible that discount tire could have damaged the sensor when they switched it to the new tire/rim?? they claim that nothing could have happened cause they only moved it.....

any help would be great
thanks

Vetterboy12- I feel for you. I had almost the same problem. The warranty will depend on the dealership and the aftermarket warranty. According to GM they don't warranty sensors on aftermarket wheels and tires. But if the dealership does not tell the warranty company about their policy, then you should be ok and the company will cover it. As long as the warranty is a full bumper to bumper warranty.
I had my tires put on my wheels at discount tire. I then had problems with one tire sensor. The dealership took the sensor off and said that it was broken, the sensor was fine when I gave it to discount tire. The dealership replaced the sensor under warranty.
But it may also have to do with your tires, apparently some steel belted tires block the RF signal from the sensor.

Also don't pay $70 to have the sensors reprogrammed. Go to the tech section and reprogram them yourself. Much easier than taking the car to the dealership.

Good Luck with the car.

They are telling me at the dealership that there will be a check out charge of $75 to just look at it......So I wont even know whats wrong til then.....I dont know what else to do...Discount tire is saying they did nothing wrong...but the fact is., before they touched it everything was working fine.....I dont know what to do

Vetteboy, I sure hope you can get this resolved...but I learned two lessons from your experience, 1) stay with the original wheels and 2) use a Goodyear tire store to change the store...they usually have more experience than some of their competitors. Make sure you don't have the F1 Eagle Steel tires instead of the OEM runflats (they have been known to cause problems with the sensors). I always thought that those tire sensors were just something else that will cause me problems in the future. Just so they could fit another golf bag in the back...when instead they could have fitted us with a spare tire.

I did get the Goodyear F1 EMT runflats.....the stock tire.......And The wheel that I changed to was the same exact demensions as the stock just the 2000 chrome....17x8.5/18x9.5 I am going to take the car into another dealership tomorrow and see if they say anything different. IT really sux though, it wouldnt even be so bad except everytime I start the engine I have to listen to that beeping and watch "service tire monitor system" flash across the screen, Anyway, thanks for the response.

Mark,

Goodyear tire store is not the answer. I took my car into them for a flat repair and they tore the chrome off the wheel at the lip. They said it was that way when I brought it in. Wasn't so. They were new. Unfortunately in the small town of Las Vegas, there is only one (1) Goodyear tire store with the proper equipment to change and EMT. That is the one I took it to. Went to Discount Tire and bought Nitto 555s instead of dealing with bafoons at Goodyear. I had no problem with Discount.

Probably a good idea is to show the manage at the tire store that everything works before you have them do any work. It's a shame people are that way but you have to. Learn from other people's misfortune.

Bring the car back to Discount Tire and have them dismount the tires while you are watching. Then inspect the sensors. If they are damaged, insist that they pay. If they will not, a call to their corporate office should clear that up.

If you take the car to the dealership most likely all they will do is try to reprogram the sensor, and if that does not work they will tell you that it has to be replaced. So I would ask them what they are going to do for the money.
If its attempting to reprogram, them try it your self, if its actually take the sensor out and checking it, then it may be worth it. Good luck getting things to work out with discount tire.

I had one bad sensor the first time I went in to Discount tire. I talked to the manager at Discount Tire and got him to look at the wheels, and told him that one sensor was not working. And he assured me that there would be no scratches on the wheels and the 3 working sensors would also work when done. It all went well, not scratches and the 3 sensors worked. I also watched the guy do all the work.

I went back with a good sensor and had discount tire replace it. But the sensor still did not work. Since I bought the sensor used, I just assumed that I got a bad sensor. It was only when the dealership took it out that they told me it was broken. So by that time it was too late to go back to Discount tire.
