I have recently aquired the dreaded gas leak (primary side) each time I fill up my tank. I've looked through many of the other gas leak posts but have not found how to access the top of the tank to find what's loose or cracked or torn. Smoknc6z06 says I should be able to access the clamps on the cross over hose (2") and check them first but I can't even see the clamps and barely can touch the hose.
How does one drop the tank? Or, if it's accessible some other way, is there a procedure some where?
You may want to look at this article as it helps understand the FFS fuel system .... I believe the procedure to drop the tanks has changed because fuel lines that previously were external are now internal ... and the crossover pipe is now metal ... not rubber.
My 04 was leaking at the cross over pipe where it snapped onto a deformed tank flange. Dealer replaced tank. Mine leaked anytime the engine was running. I've heard of other 04s with this problem.
The action center article is great information on the new fuel system.
I'm still curious to know if I have to drop the exhaust and driveline to get to the top of the gas tank for troubleshooting. According to the corvette action center article I need to do it the first time to make myself familiar with the components then if I have to access the tank again, I won't have to drop the exhaust and driveline.
Can anyone make me a copy of the service manual section on removing the 04 primary gas tank?
Sorry, I have a 2001 (older fuel system) and my Service Manuals are the paper ones for a 2001 ..... but I'll help you bump this until you get someone with a 2004 to help out ....

Same problem here. Mine leaked when running and it was the same problem with the flange. didn't have a lift so i let the dealer do it and they charged me about 1600. they didn't drop the rear end, but they had a hell of a time getting it back in. I do all the work on my car and thought i got my money's worth on that one lol.

If you will PM me your e-mail address, I will send you a .pdf of the instructions. Also, I have the tanks out of my wifes car right now if you need any detailed pics of something. Let me know, because I plan on putting them back in sometime today. Her car is a 2005, but the setup/parts are the same.
Got my tank out after lowering rearend, tranny, and driveline all in one piece. Did remove the cradle for the extra room.
Found my gas leak after a simple pressure test on the bench. Put the filler neck and gas cap back on, shoved a small yogurt cup into the crossover connection port, and ran some air throught the vent tube. With just mild pressure build up, bubbles immediately started coming out in the seam of the plastic piece "welded" into the tank for the crossover connector. So a total tank failure.
Good news is I saved enough doing it myself that my awesome wife is letting me install a new 3.42 diff while I'm into it.
Oh, and if you want a cool fuel line quick disconnect tool, talk to TIM. Thumbs up!
