hi guys i went to inspection i own 1998 silver coupe well it failed for parking brake wont hold it has new pads on front and back i put new ones on still brake dont hold car when running why this parking brake gets nice and tight when car is off but when you have car running and pull back parking brake its very easy help ok happy hoilidays all
well tell me then why is it parking brake is hard to pull up with car off then when its running and why wont it hold car thats why i failed inspection
The parking brake won't hold the car because either the brake shoes are worn out (not the disc brake pads ... the parking brake shoes) or the brake shoes are not adjusted correctly.
I cannot tell you why it feels different with the engine on or off (if that is what you are asking) ... from the handle inside the car it is a cable to the rear brake shoes ..... the engine has nothing to do with it.
why is service abs keep coming on i noticed when i start my car if i left the heat on blower motor wont go on till i reset button why do they have same maxi fuse for abs and blower motor
Your rear brakes have TWO .... yes TWO brakes in/on each rotor.
Each rotor has an hydraulic DISC brake .... INSIDE the rear rotor is a DRUM BRAKE.
The drum brake is actuated by a cable attached to the brake handle inside the car.
The disc brake is actuated by you putting your foot on the brake pedal which causes the master cylinder to pressurize the brake fluid to the brake calipers.
You need to remove the rear rotors to see the drum brake.
i just put new pads on back how do you adjust them
You don't adjust the pads ... the pads are for the DISC brake
INSIDE the rotor is a DRUM brake .... the brake SHOES can be adjusted .... look at the backing plate on the inside of the rear hub/brake assembly. There is a rubber plug on the lower part of the backing plate ... pull the plug.
Using a screw driver you adjust the brake shoes using the star wheel inside the rotor. If you can't adjust them ... you will need to remove the calipers and rotors to access and replace the drum brake shoes.

Last time I'm polite in this thread .......
YOUR DISC PADS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PARKING BRAKE
The front DISC brakes have NOTHING to do with your parking brake .....
The rear DISC brakes have NOTHING to do with your parking brake ......
Look at the pictures in the post that rws.1 kindly gave you ......

You got all your answers above to fix it, I think you need to take it to a Corvette shop and have them do it, As said before, IT ISN"T the pads....

Take it to a Corvette mechanic. Try pulling the handle a bit harder and see what happens, I have to give mine a good tug for it to work right.
I have seen a lot of E-brakes that work different in forward than reverse if not pulled enough.
